A Research Proposal: The Effects Of Restaurant Environment On Consumer Behavior, Qiuyu Jin

The purpose of this research proposal is to investigate the effects of restaurant environment on consumer behavior. Five journals that are relevant to the relationship between restaurant environment and the behavioral intentions of consumers are delved into this paper. The self-administered questionnaires will be distributed to patrons in ten selected middle and upscale full-service restaurants. Data collection will be constructed through tables and charts that are useful in obtaining a more comprehensive result. Restaurants will be able to use this research proposal to find the appropriate ways to improve consumers’ satisfaction and also to increase profits.

The School of Accountancy placed 21st out of 254 institutions in the 2014 Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Exam pass rate for large programs (more than 60 candidates), up from 30th place in 2013. The CPA Exam consists of four individual sections and the ranking is based on the percentage of students who pass all four sections the first time they take the exam. More than 75% of USU students passed all fours sections of the exam on their first try.

This paper presents the results of a large-scale benchmarking study of operations management (OM) courses in higher education. The goal of the research is to drive continuous improvement in the quality and value of the educational experience in academic institutions, and inform the training, development, and recruitment efforts of SCM professionals. A content analysis of a large sample of OM course syllabi was carried out to identify the content of both undergraduate and graduate courses, and the relative importance attached to individual topics. While many public universities have been bargaining with student-employee unions for decades, the National Labor Relations Board has struggled with the notion of allowing bargaining on behalf of student-employees at private institutions. In recent years, the Board has twice changed course on the question, granting bargaining rights to graduate assistants at New York University in 2000, and four years later reversing itself in a case involving Brown University. Despite these changes, the increase in academic collective bargaining has not been well documented. Consequently, the purpose of the current paper is to examine recent trends in academic collective bargaining and to compare these trends with the current unionization and collective bargaining situation in other major industries in the United States. Post-Recession Cbas: A Study Of Wage Increases In The Agreements Of Four State-Wide Faculty Unions, Steve Hicks

The article looks at the post-Recession (2011) agreements of four state-wide faculties: California State system, SUNY, Minnesota and Pennsylvania. Focusing on wages, the study starts with the context of state appropriations after the Recession and after ARRA. It finds that the agreements took longer, yet without job action, and each had a year with no salary increase, and some agreements include both no salary increase AND no seniority-based increase.

This study examines faculty unions’ impact on the organizational efficiency and effectiveness of public four-year institutions of higher learning. The article theorizes the causal connections between faculty unions to higher education performance. The study also presents results of a cross-sectional time series analysis and a cross-sectional analysis of higher education performance using data from the Department of Education’s Integrated Post Secondary Data System (IPEDS) spanning more than two decades and over 430 public universities and colleges. We find support for the view that unionization improves organizational efficiency and effectiveness. At the same time the research raises important methodological and substantive …

The author, a member of the 2013-2014 American Council on Education Fellows Class, offers observations and synthesis on factors affecting the viability and execution of collective bargaining in higher education. Building on the history of the academy, and taking into account environmental factors such as technology and social trends, the author proposes that greater senior leadership involvement, transparency, and flexibility may be needed for collective bargaining units in colleges and universities to be successful, as change continues to assail higher education.

The United States has a strong reputation for being at the forefront of space exploration. The commercial space industry in the United States is flourishing, yet the United States government is not effectively using its resources to help the industry. Currently, the United States government has some policies in place that promote the private space sector. Nonetheless, the government favors its own failing agency, NASA, by giving it extra benefits in the form of exemptions from import duties. The traditional fact-sensitive managerial analysis with law analyzes business situations to identify legal issues and applies legal rules to facts to make judicial decisions. The fact-sensitive managerial analysis takes decades to identify a family of business situations and lacks the analytical capacity to use business knowledge (concepts) and analytical methods to identify business situations. Alternatively, a concept-sensitive managerial analysis with law increases factual sensitivity by applying a business concept to a legal rule to shorten the duration of identifying an extensive family of business situations. In recent years, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have vigorously enforced the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). The FCPA prohibits bribery of foreign government officials, and the statute provides for significant civil and criminal sanctions. Settling and remediating violations can cost corporate defendants millions, with several corporate enforcement actions exceeding $100 million in sanctions. Moreover, enforcement actions related to the FCPA often are not brought until many years after the alleged violations.

Trust is important for assuring the success of organizational change. This paper investigates the influence of social information sources and communication on trust in organizational change, and also tests the moderating effect of the credibility of social information. Taking port reform as an example, this research discovers the following results: (1) communication is significantly related to employee's trust in organizational change; (2) social information from supervisors is positively associated with employee trust in organizational change; but information from unions does not exert a significant influence; and (3) social information credibility from supervisors and unions partially moderates the relationship between social …

With increasing fuel prices and restructuring in the power industry, nonconvex economic dispatch (NED) is expected to become crucial because of nonsmooth cost functions. This paper presents an intelligent particle swarm optimization for economic dispatch with valve-point effect. A new index, another particle best (Pbestap), is incorporated into the particle swarm optimization to further improve social behavior. Moreover, a novel diversity-based judgment mechanism for evaluating Pbestap behavior is proposed for maintaining population diversity, which facilitates identification of the near-global region. This paper describes the development and empirical practice of the underwater panorama system at two landmark dive spots at Green Island, Taiwan. Recreational scuba diving has become popular on coral reefs. Information highlighting dive spots can assist prospective customers with selecting their dive destinations. Underwater panoramas are a new approach for presenting such tourist attractions. The system's hardware includes a tailored cylindrical housing containing a spherical digital video camera. Its panoramic images enable people to come closer to the real underwater world. Footage can be viewed using PCs, laptops, tablets, and other common digital viewing appliances. Common Auditors In M&A Transactions, Ye Cai, Yongtae Kim, Jong Chool Park, Hal D. White

We examine merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions in which the acquirer and the target share a common auditor. We predict that a common auditor can help merging firms reduce uncertainty throughout the acquisition process, which allows managers to more efficiently allocate their capital, resulting in higher quality M&As. Consistent with our prediction, we find that deals with common auditors have higher acquisition announcement returns than do non-common-auditor deals. Further, we find that the common-auditor effect is more pronounced for deals with greater pre-acquisition uncertainty and deals involving acquirers and targets that are audited by the same local office of the …
