There are two areas that I believe should be the focus of Chapter 11 reform: reducing reorganization costs in small to middle-market cases and instituting a uniform structure and process for § 363 sales of substantially all the assets of a debtor. Essentially, I think that the plan process in all cases needs to be streamlined and sped up to decrease transactions costs, and the 363 sale process needs to be slowed down to promote more robust disclosure and exposure of the assets in question to the market.

We analyze a large, detailed operational data set from a restaurant chain to shed new light on how workload (defined as the number of tables or diners that a server simultaneously handles) affects servers’ performance (measured as sales and meal duration). We use an exogenous shock - the implementation of labor scheduling software - and time-lagged instrumental variables to disentangle the endogeneity between demand and supply in this setting. We show that servers strive to maximize sales and speed efforts simultaneously, depending on the relative values of sales and speed. As a result, we find that, when the overall workload …

In this dissertation, I explore the underlying mechanisms through which a firm innovates and invests in Research and Development (R&D). It consists of two essays. The initial essay investigates the effects of aggregate stock market liquidity on innovation at both the aggregate and firm levels for publicly traded firms in the U.S., and shows a significant and positive effect at both levels of aggregation. Next, the essay provides two underlying mechanisms through which aggregate stock liquidity enhances innovation. This study investigates factors affecting young driver injury levels for single vehicle crashes occurring within curves on rural two-lane roads in Louisiana. Although the number of fatal and serious injury crashes involving young drivers is declining, young drivers are still overrepresented in crashes and crashes are still the leading cause of death for young drivers. Driver injury prediction models are formulated using binary logistic regression and Bayesian Network (BN) modeling. Despite continued polarization along political party lines, it remains unclear how differences in political ideology impact the choices consumers make. The results of seven studies indicate that political ideology profoundly influences the way consumers think and behave. Liberals and conservatives are systematically drawn to distinct choice preferences where liberals prefer hedonic, novel, and desirable options, while conservatives prefer utilitarian, status quo, and feasible options. These findings are robust for multiple measures of political ideology across multiple choice sets. Differences in behavior are explained by the amount of deliberation used for a given decision. This research examines the evolutionary eating patterns of consumers when eating with those they are in relationships with, moving beyond eating decisions made in isolation or in the presence of strangers. Across three studies, unique patterns of consumption emerge when males and females are in different stages of romantic relationships. I demonstrate that the evolutionary motives of mate acquisition and mate retention drive eating patterns for relationship partners relative to their gender. I show that females match the eating habits of males at early stages in the relationship but are more independent later in the relationship, while males match eating …

In order to assess how firms have responded to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), as part of the 2014 HR@ Moore Survey of Chief HR Officers we asked CHROs how they have experienced different aspects of the health insurance and health care system and how they have changed their employment strategies. The results show that 78% of the respondents indicated that their health insurance costs have risen (by an average of 7.73%) and 37% reported that their labor costs have increased (by an average of 5.6%) as a direct consequence of the PPACA. Does Information And Communication Technology Improve Job Satisfaction? The Moderating Role Of Sales Technology Orientation, Yam Limbu, C Jayachandran, Barry J. Babin

Empirical research concerning the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in shaping business-to-business salesforce job satisfaction remains relatively scarce. The authors propose and empirically test a causal model that theoretically represents structural relationships among factors comprising ICT and eventual salesperson job satisfaction. Study results indicate that ICT indirectly influences job satisfaction through salesforce administrative performance. While ICT infrastructure, training, and support positively relate to administrative performance, none of them influence outcome performance significantly. In addition, salesperson technology orientation moderates the effect of both ICT infrastructure and support on job satisfaction. Managerial insights and implications from the research are discussed.

Users' perceptions of risks have important implications for information security, as the actions of individual users can compromise entire systems. Therefore, there is a critical need to understand how users perceive and respond to information security risks. Previous research on perceptions of information security risk has chiefly relied on self-reported measures. Although these studies are valuable, risk perceptions are often associated with feelings—such as fear or doubt—that are difficult to measure accurately using survey instruments.
