Evaluating Conflict Between Employees: Exploring The Costs To An Organization, David Cross Ph.D., Scott W.M. Burrus Ph.D., Melanie Shaw Ph.D.
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
Conflicts between employees result in decreased job satisfaction, negative relationships within the organization, and a loss of employee commitment to both the organization and the specific job performed. Workplace conflicts have high costs to businesses. In aviation, the results of conflict can be deadly. The Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) is designed to help people learn practical strategies to mitigate conflict. A sample of 228 people from the aviation industry completed a pre-training survey, participated in scenario-based SDI training, and then completed a post-training survey regarding the effectiveness of the SDI to help them manage conflict. Mandatory Disclosure And Asymmetry In Financial Reporting, Jeremy Bertomeu, Robert P. Magee

This article examines the demand for disclosure rules by inf ormed managers interested in increasing the market price of their firms. Within a model o f political influence, a major- ityof managers chooses disclosure rules with which allfirms must comply. In equilibrium, disclosure rules are asymmetric with greater levels of disc losure over adverse events. This asymmetry is positively associated with the informativene ss of the measurement and increas- ing in the level of verifiability and ex-ante uncertainty of t he information. Do Social Biases Impede Auditor Reliance On Specialists? Toward A Theory Of Social Similarity, Rina Maxine Limor

Does social similarity between the auditor and a specialist induce social biases that impair the auditor's reliance on the specialist? It is important to examine potential impairments to reliance since auditors do not possess expertise in many of the areas examined during the audit. One type of specialist that is increasingly relied upon by the auditor is the IT specialist.
Since firms have two approaches to the organization of IT personnel (decentralized vs. centralized) and often use professional designations as a hiring criteria for specialists, I examine two dimensions of social similarity: domain knowledge distinctiveness and spatial distance. Using a …

In September 2013, the Center for American Progress released a report titled “ The State of Women in America: A 50- State Analysis of How Women Are Faring Across the Nation.” This report ranks Utah last of all 50 states in terms of women being in positions of decision making and leadership. The Ethical-Religious Framework For Shalom, Michael E. Cafferky

This paper explores the ancient Hebrew Decalogue, the Ten Commandments, a traditional ethical-religious framework for business conduct, in terms of its contribution to well-being. Some elements of the Decalogue align with what contemporary scholars believe are generally-accepted moral principles expected of businesses. This paper addresses the question of how all the elements of the Decalogue contribute to the Hebrew concept of Shalom. The purpose of the Decalogue is established in the context of a covenant community of believers. Each of the Ten Commandments is evaluated in terms of its contribution to Shalom.
