From Academics To Change Agents In A Gender Equity Initiative, Sonia M. Galtz, Patty Sotirin Jul 2014

From Academics To Change Agents In A Gender Equity Initiative, Sonia M. Galtz, Patty Sotirin

Organization Management Journal

Firsthand experience offers a valuable perspective on the lived complications of change initiatives. We describe how we suddenly found ourselves in charge of a university-wide gender equity initiative. Despite our experience with campus issues of gender bias and larger discussions about implicit bias, we were unprepared for the personal, community, and institutional implications of taking on such a widespread and very visible initiative. We reflect on the complexities of our struggles to reframe our own assumptions, to engage with the campus community, to respond to multiform resistances, and to ensure institutional accountability. Our reflections have implications both for equity initiatives …

The Effects Of Group-Level And Individual Contributions On Business Simulation Team Performance, Kristen Backhaus, Karl Heiner Jul 2014

The Effects Of Group-Level And Individual Contributions On Business Simulation Team Performance, Kristen Backhaus, Karl Heiner

Organization Management Journal

Studies of team performance in business simulations have not investigated the effect of a “star member” of the team on team performance outcomes. This article reports the findings of a study examining the role of team composition variables, team function variables and the effect of a star player on team score in an undergraduate business simulation. As hypothesized, team performance is associated with the performance of a single outstanding player. Among team composition variables, only intrinsic motivation of team members is associated with team score. A composite measure of team function that included team trust, communication and goal clarity was …

An Integrated Course Design Model For Beginning Faculty, Thomas F. Hawk, Amit J. Shah Jul 2014

An Integrated Course Design Model For Beginning Faculty, Thomas F. Hawk, Amit J. Shah

Organization Management Journal

It is rare that faculty members begin their first full-time teaching position with an integrated and consciously constructed practical model for course design, teaching, and learning. The purpose of this article is to offer new faculty members a starting point for constructing an integrated model of the course design and teaching and learning processes. The model begins with the instructor’s choice of course learning goals, objectives, and outcomes and progresses through the translation of those learning goals and objectives into articulated evaluation and feedback rubrics, the choice of specific learning activities and materials reflected in a learner-centered syllabus, the conduct …

Days prior to the February, 2011 Utah State University student referendum, the ‘green police’ were out in force issuing ‘citations’ to students who drove to school or placed recyclable items in the trash. The ‘citations’ were actually political leaflets from representatives of the USU College Republicans dressed in satirical law enforcement garb, protesting the“Blue Goes Green” ballot measure that would impose a 25 cent-per-credit-hour fee (averaging about $3 per student per semester) to fund a proposed Student Sustainability Office and administer a grant program for student initiatives to conserve resources on campus. Although placed on the ballot by a student …

Results Of The June Survey Of Nebraska Business: July 3, 2014, Eric Thompson, Shannon Mcclure

Leading Economic Indicator Reports

Summary: Respondents to the June 2014 Survey of Nebraska Business are positive in their outlook for sales and employment at their business. More respondents expect sales to rise (33%) than decline (18%) in the next six months. Similarly, more expect to increase (16%) rather than reduce (3%) employment. These June results mark the fifth consecutive month in which Nebraska businesses held a positive outlook. Within the state, respondents located in the Omaha Metropolita Area were especially positive in their outlook for sales. As might be expected during a period of growth, businesses were very focused on the individual challenges facing …

Identifying Critical Success Factors: The Case Of Erp Systems In Higher Education, Billy Mathias Bm Kalema Dr, Oludayo O. Olugbara Prof, Ray M. Kekwaletswe Prof

The African Journal of Information Systems

This paper reports on a study that uses a combination of techniques to formally characterize and determine the critical success factors influencing the effective usage of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, with special reference to higher education institutions. The thirty-seven ERP success factors identified from the literature are classified into: Critical, Active, Reactive and Inert categories. The classification of decision factors can generally support organizations to explore their current challenges and to adequately prepare decisions in a more participatory way for future endeavors. This study suggests a possible alternative that decision makers should take when a factor or a set …

Dynamic Pricing In The Singapore Condominium Market, Eric Fesselmeyer, Haoming Liu Jul 2014

Dynamic Pricing In The Singapore Condominium Market, Eric Fesselmeyer, Haoming Liu

Research Collection College of Integrative Studies

Dynamic pricing strategies are likely an important consideration of Singapore condominium developers because of the durability of condominiums, price transparency, and the long sales period. While we do not observe any systematic relationship between the new sale prices and time of purchase, we do find that quality-adjusted price increases and the quality of units purchased decreases over the new sale period. These results suggest that condominium developers allow early buyers to purchase high quality units at discounted prices but do not extend the price discount to later buyers of low quality units. What Do We Know About Entrepreneurship As An Intangible Asset?, Polavarapu M. Rao Jul 2014

What Do We Know About Entrepreneurship As An Intangible Asset?, Polavarapu M. Rao

Faculty of Marketing & International Business Publications

The purpose of this paper is two-fold: One, to present the argument that entrepreneurship is an important, albeit difficult-to-measure intangible asset. Two, to discuss what we do know about measurement of other intangible assets at the macro as well as the firm level. Lack of an operational definition of entrepreneur continues to plague empirical research on the role of entrepreneur for innovation. Many proxy measures for entrepreneurs have very little to do with technological innovation. The innovative use of Q ratio as a measure of ‘entrepreneurial fever’ and the idea of imitating entrepreneur advanced by some scholars are promising. There …

Fan Involvement With Regional Or City Affiliated Nfl Teams, Kristopher C. Jones Jul 2014

Fan Involvement With Regional Or City Affiliated Nfl Teams, Kristopher C. Jones

Sport Management Undergraduate

This research looked at the difference between how involved NFL fans are with their favorite/identified team, based on such team being either regionally or city affiliated. Prior to this study, it was known that sport fandom is positively correlated to a fan’s psychological well being, in addition to knowledge that fans who develop loyal relationships towards their team become increasingly involved with the team, resulting in positive identification with the team. The research conducted in the study was an attempt to uncover new knowledge on how the location affiliation of an NFL team relates to the team’s fans. For this …

Transnational Companies And Radical Transformation Processes: A Study Of Performance In Comparison To Other Multinational Companies, Jorge Alejandro Palacios Jul 2014

Transnational Companies And Radical Transformation Processes: A Study Of Performance In Comparison To Other Multinational Companies, Jorge Alejandro Palacios

HCBE Theses and Dissertations

The objective of this study was to answer the following question: Do organizations that were defined as having successfully adopted the transnational model, as per Bartlett and Ghoshal (1989), and labeled as transnational companies (TNC), perform significantly better than other multinational companies (MNC) when going through radical transformation processes?

This research question was answered through a mixed method research design. The first part used a quantitative research approach and evaluated the financial performance of TNCs selected from the Bartlett and Ghoshal (1989) research, using secondary data sources from 6 TNCs and 20 MNCs. The second part used a qualitative approach …

Capital In The Twenty-First Century: A Tale Without Morality, Bruce D. Baker Jul 2014

Capital In The Twenty-First Century: A Tale Without Morality, Bruce D. Baker

SPU Works

Thomas Piketty has given economists a lot to argue about, but their arguments miss the point of the book’s success. “Capital in the Twenty-First Century” is not a bestseller based on its economic merits. It’s a bestseller because it speaks to a deep moral anxiety. Confidence in capitalism has been shaken. The crisis of 2008 exposed weaknesses in the financialization of our economy. Piketty makes a valiant contribution to economic theory and history, but his empiricism succumbs ultimately to the same flaw John Paul II diagnosed in Marxism—it leads to an incoherent statement of moral order.

Evolution Of Food Quality Demand In The Food Service Industry In China: The Case Of Duck, Rachel Alison Carnegie Jul 2014

Evolution Of Food Quality Demand In The Food Service Industry In China: The Case Of Duck, Rachel Alison Carnegie

Open Access Theses

Booming economic growth and rising consumer incomes have impacted food preferences and purchasing behavior in China. At the same time, several internationally publicized food safety incidents, particularly in the animal husbandry sector, have heightened awareness of and concern for food safety and quality in meat and dairy. Rising quality demand and safety concerns have been studied at length in the food retail sector, but also appear to be important in the food service industry. This research uses data from a survey of duck restaurant managers and consumers in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Guangzhou to determine preferences and willingness to pay …

Football Head Coaching Evaluations: Perceptions On The Ncaa Division Iii Level, Bryan Schnell Jul 2014

Football Head Coaching Evaluations: Perceptions On The Ncaa Division Iii Level, Bryan Schnell

Sport Management Undergraduate

The purpose of this study was to look at the evaluation criteria used during the evaluation of a Division III head football coach. The reasoning behind the subject is because of the lack of knowledge on the criteria used. While some researches have given a short list of reasons why coaches get fired, however none of them have focused on Division III which’s landscape is very different of that in Division I. A survey was sent out to 150 head coaches and athletic directors throughout the country. After looking at the results it showed the perceptions did differ between both …

Independent Evaluation Of Asic’S Implementation Of The Helping Our Kids Understand Finances Initiative, Robert Simons

Program monitoring and evaluation

In May 2013, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) commissioned the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) to conduct an independent evaluation of its implementation of the Helping Our Kids Understand Finances (HOKUF) initiative. The purpose was to conduct an independent evidence-based assessment of whether ASIC implemented the HOKUF initiative in a way that met the following key criteria: 1) Appropriate – the extent to which the program developed by ASIC was useful and ‘fit for purpose’ in supporting the delivery of the consumer and financial literacy content aligned to the Australian Curriculum. 2) Effective − the extent to …

Nebraska Monthly Economic Indicators: July 18, 2014, Eric Thompson, William Walstad, Shannon Mcclure

Leading Economic Indicator Reports

The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI-N) rose by 1.01% during June 2014. The rise in the LEI-N, which predicts economic growth in the state six months in the future, is the fifth consecutive monthly increase. Cumulatively, these increases provide reliable evidence of solid growth in the Nebraska economy in the second half of 2014. Positive business expectations are a key reason for the improvement in the LEI-N. Specifically, June respondents to the Survey of Nebraska Business predict a strong increase in both sales and employment at their business over the next six month. There also was a decline in …
