We use an adaptive conjoint analysis survey tool to discover the relative weighting of a new set of social responsibility job search criteria, including these attributes with traditional job search criteria like financial package, geographical location, etc. In addition, our results show that more than ninety percent of the MBAs in the sample were willing to forgo financial benefits …

Today, suppliers feel like they're not getting their fair share of the profits from ECR. But they stand to lose more if they give up on it, the authors say.

Complex Unfamiliar Entries In The Airport Context, Bill Brunger May 2003

Complex Unfamiliar Entries In The Airport Context, Bill Brunger

Student Scholarship

Airport managers tend to view airport efficiency through the lens of their own experience based on measurements of travelers' interactions with the airline after the traveler has entered the airport process. They ignore the times when the traveler is not empirically measurable, for example, the period between arrival at the airport and checks-in with the airline, and therefore miss important insight into how travelers cope with uncertainty and anxiety of the airport experience. In this paper, the author, an Airline Executive, suggests that ethnographic studies based on the techniques of rich observation, note-taking, coding, and inductive analysis will be a …

Profit Maximization In The Banking Industry: Early Adoption Of Technology And Its Effects On Efficiencies, John Gulnac

Business and Economics Honors Papers

Technological innovation has restructured the marketplace creating cost advantages in many industries. One industry that has experienced significant change is the banking industry. The widespread applications of Information Technology (IT) complemented with the adoptions of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) have changed the face of the banking industry: by providing banks with the opportunity to improve certain operational efficiencies IT is giving them a competitive advantage in a consolidating industry. Brick and mortar banks are no longer an operational necessity. The banking industry through recent deregulations now has the ability to enter new and previously untapped markets with relatively low entry …

Inter-Cultural Service Encounters: The Mechanism Underlying The Effect Of Cultural Distance On Customer Service Satisfaction, C. Fritz Reichert

Student Scholarship

In our global economy where companies are often required to serve customers of many different cultures, there is a need to understand how culture affects service satisfaction. In this paper the author presents a model and hypotheses for understanding the mechanism underlying the effect of cultural distance between the customer and the service provider on service satisfaction when a service failure is encountered. The model synthesizes the type of service failure, the context in which the service is provided, the customer's cultural disposition, and the customer's attribution processes. The model and hypotheses are tested using a quasiexperimental, web-based research design …

Telecommuting, or working from a remote location, is a very popular idea that has gained growing support from employees and companies over the past decade. The opportunity to stay home and do work appeals to employees, and the ability to reduce overhead costs appeals to the company. Developing a program that outlines how this arrangement would take place is vital. Outlined are a few of the components that should be included in this type of arrangement.

First, the telecommuter situation will be on a trial basis for a predetermined amount of time. The company or the employee has the right …

Politics And Sports, Richard C. Crepeau Apr 2003

Politics And Sports, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

It was a quick war and as wars go a relatively easy one for the victors. In an age of mass media, endless cable news coverage, and embedded reporters there was a kind of faux realism to it all. In fact the two favorite words in the reporting were "surreal" and "robust."

International Advertising And The Use Of The Sex Appeal: Acceptance Of Sex Appeal In China, Katie Hunt Apr 2003

International Advertising And The Use Of The Sex Appeal: Acceptance Of Sex Appeal In China, Katie Hunt

Theses and Dissertations

China is the most populated country in the world. With a population of over a billion people, it is an attractive market to many companies. However, China has traditionally been a market that was difficult to access due to its communist government and strict regulations. In 1978, China began changing the economy from a centrally planned system to a more market-oriented economy. By 2001, "China stood as the second largest economy in the world after the U.S., measured on a purchasing power parity basis" (World Factbook, 2002). China is a strong business partner with the U.S.; 21% of China's exports …

Rapid, Low Level Determination Of Silver(I) In Drinking Water By Colorimetric–Solid-Phase Extraction, Matteo P. Arena, Marc D. Porter, James S. Fritz Apr 2003

Rapid, Low Level Determination Of Silver(I) In Drinking Water By Colorimetric–Solid-Phase Extraction, Matteo P. Arena, Marc D. Porter, James S. Fritz

Finance Faculty Research and Publications

A rapid, highly sensitive two-step procedure for the trace analysis of silver(I) is described. The method is based on: (1) the solid-phase extraction (SPE) of silver(I) from a water sample onto a disk impregnated with a silver-selective colorimetric reagent, and (2) the determination of the amount of complexed analyte extracted by the disk by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). This method, called colorimetric–solid-phase extraction (C–SPE), was recently shown effective in determining low concentrations (0.1–5.0 mg/ml) of iodine and iodide in drinking water. This report extends C–SPE to the trace (∼4 μg/l) level monitoring of silver(I) which is a biocide used on …
