The Impact Of Exchange Rate Volatility On International Trade: Evidence From China, Marwa Said Anis Dr., Aya Afify

Business Administration

This paper proposes helpful insights regarding the impact of the exchange rate volatility on international trade.  The focus has been on China using a monthly data from the period of January 2003 to August 2018. This is mainly an attempt to contribute to the ongoing debates about this relationship. Time series analysis is adopted specifically; stationary test, granger-causality test, co-integration and error correlation model and finally the residual test. Results indicate that there is a co-integration relationship among the variables. The error correlation model has shown that both the exchange rate and inflation have a significant negative impact on imports. …

Assessing Univariate And Multivariate Normality In Pls-Sem, Kathy Qing Ma, Weiyong Zhang

Information Technology & Decision Sciences Faculty Publications

Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) has gained popularity among researchers in part due to its relaxed requirement for multivariate normality. One important step in performing structural equation modeling (SEM) is to test the normality assumption. In this paper, we illustrate how to assess univariate and multivariate normality in PLS-SEM using WarpPLS.

The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened interest in standards-based strategies for risk management and crisis preparedness to enhance organizational and societal resilience. University curricula that integrate national and international standards offer students a rich skill-set for effective performance in their careers. Exploring Mexican Attitudes Toward The Front Labeling System For Food And Beverages: A Twitter Analysis, Monica D. Hernandez, Edith Galy

International Business and Entrepreneurship Faculty Publications

Recently, the Mexican government implemented a simple labeling system that would apply to 85% of the food products. The aim of the system is to report high amounts of calories, sugars, sodium, fats and trans fats. Labels are displayed on the front of the package individually or in groups. No studies have been conducted to analyze public attitudes toward the labeling system. In order to fill this gap, the purpose of the study is to conduct an exploratory analysis of the Mexican attitudes toward the new labeling system on Twitter. The Twitter API was used to collect tweets published between …

Finally, It Seems To Be Working – The Evolving Valuation Effect Of The European Union’S Emissions Trading System, Benjamin Lynch, Martha O'Hagan-Luff

Articles

This research examines the market reaction to the publication of firm-specific environmental news for participating firms in the European Union’s Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) during its third phase. Our sample of 123 publicly listed participating firms, located in 21 European countries, accounted for 45.43% of emissions in the EU ETS in 2020. Using an event study methodology during the period 2014–2021, we find that positive news was rewarded with increased returns for publication events related to the latter years of the phase (2017–2020) while it had an insignificant impact for earlier year (2013–2016). This indicates that the EU ETS …

A Simulation-Based Tdabc Model To Manage Supply Chain Costing: A Case Study, Siham Rahoui, John Crowe, Amr Mahfouz

Conference Papers

Effective management of supply chain costing is crucial for decision-making during times of disruption. It provides accurate cost indicators, enabling organizations to adapt to the risks of disruptions and mitigate their adverse effects. The supply chain costing literature has shown that traditional cost accounting approaches are inadequate in addressing the dynamic and complex nature of supply chain performance and the nonlinear behavior of the involved processes. Consequently, this paper presents a simulation-based supply chain costing framework that integrates discrete event simulation and time-driven activity-based costing to explore the dynamics of management accounting tools in a real context with all their …

Management Faculty Publications

The benefits of entrepreneurial mentorship are well documented, but there is limited research on how entrepreneurs connect with mentors, especially in digital settings. We partnered with an online platform that connects entrepreneurs to potential mentors to conduct a field experiment in online mentoring. Drawing on literature on entrepreneurial mentorship and Social Cognitive Theory, we compared the effects of three interventions on the likelihood of reaching out and making a connection with a mentor in a digital setting. We find that showing entrepreneurs a video of a successful mentor–mentee relationship increases the chances that they will reach out to a potential …

Emphasizing the importance of faculty who teach, mentor, and guide honors students on their educational journeys, the author draws on firsthand experience to offer specific ideas about how to engage and reward honors faculty. Theorizing International Business In Africa: A Roadmap, Paul Vaaler

Articles

International business in Africa is complicated by colonial history, late internationalization, and the growing interest of various foreign powers in Africa and its resources. We share key indicators about African countries and offer a conceptual map to help make sense of this complex scholarly terrain. We distinguish between three types of multinational enterprises (MNEs) operating in sub-Saharan Africa: Advanced MNEs (from high-income previous colonial and non-colonial countries), Emerging MNEs (from middle-income countries both inside and outside the region) and Nascent MNEs (from low-income African countries). We show how these distinct types of MNEs provide different development opportunities, how they engage …

Hiding In Plain Sight: How Imperfect Ingredient Transformation Impact Consumer Preference For Rescue-Based Food, Anna De Visser-Amundson, John Peloza, Mirella Kleijnen, Aylin Aydinli

Marketing & Supply Chain Faculty Publications

Rescue-based food (RBF) – food products often made from ingredients that are not able to be sold due to aesthetic imperfections – represent an opportunity to reduce food waste. However, despite consumers’ desire to act prosocially, preference for such products is negatively impacted by the perception that the imperfect ingredients reduce the quality of RBF. Across two studies, one field study and one controlled experiment, we demonstrate that a higher level of ingredients transformation can positively impact demand for RBF. Specifically, when the transformation makes the physical appearance of the initial imperfect ingredients less discernable (e.g., pureed) consumer demand increases …

Expanded Tax Incentives For Energy-Efficient Construction And Improvements, Martin A. Goldberg, James N. Mohs

Accounting Faculty Publications

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (the Act), included an array of tax-law changes that may not have gotten the attention they deserve.

There are several reasons why for many these changes may have been under the radar. First, as part of a much larger legislative package, much of the attention has been given to the ongoing political debates rather than individual provisions. In fact, the Act is part of a larger political saga. It's a scaled-down version, and immediate successor, to the Build Back Better Act which passed in the House of Representatives in 2021 but failed to pass …
