Impact Of Perceived Environmental Restorativeness On Tourists’ Pro-Environmental Behavior: Examining The Mediation Of Place Attachment And The Moderation Of Ecocentrism, Bin Zhou, Luting Wang, Songshan Huang, Qihao Xiong

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Guided by attention restoration theory and stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) theory, we developed an integrated model to investigate the impact of perceived environmental restoration on forest park visitors' pro-environmental behavior through the mediation of place attachment. We further tested the moderating role of eco-centrism to provide theoretical and practical implications for the sustainability of tourism destinations and positive human-nature interactions. Using a sample of 504 visitors to a national forest park in China, our study indicated all three dimensions of environmental restorative perception (compatibility, extent, and away) positively influenced place attachment. Place attachment promoted pro-environmental behavior. Place attachment was an important mediator …

Tourist Emotion-Learning Nexus: A Case Of Sertar, China, Zhicheng Yu, Keyi Guo, Songshan Huang, Zhiyong Li, Yumei Du, Meng Yu

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

This paper discusses the nexus between tourists' emotions and learning at a religious site, Sertar, in China. Based on Kolb's learning cycle, this qualitative study proposes a conceptual framework regarding the connections between tourist attraction stimuli, tourist emotions, and tourist learning outcomes. The findings reveal that tourists have experienced mixed and intense emotions and obtained valuable learning outcomes, including changes in attitudes toward life, changes in attitudes toward others, changes in values and beliefs, and cross-cultural awareness. Tourist emotions play a vital role in triggering reflection and further generating transformative learning. Negative emotions could also result in positive learning and …

The Effect Of Risk Message Framing On Tourist Safety Behavior: A Heuristic-Systematic Model Perspective, Chaowu Xie, Lingling Fan, Jiangchi Zhang, Songshan Huang

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

This research examined the effect of pandemic risk message framing (amplifying vs. attenuating) on tourists' safety behavior from the perspective of heuristic-systematic information processing, as well as the roles of ontological security threat and public opinion climate of risk in moderating such effect. The results of two experiments showed that risk message framing had significant effects on tourists' heuristic processing and systematic processing, and systematic processing mediated the effect of risk message framing on tourists' safety behavior. Furthermore, ontological security threat and public opinion climate of risk strengthened tourists' heuristic processing of risk message; they also moderated the mediation effect …

Feminist Pragmatism In The Nonprofit Sector, Elise Lael Kieffer Sep 2023

Feminist Pragmatism In The Nonprofit Sector, Elise Lael Kieffer

Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity

Many nonprofit organizations are founded with passion and energy, rather than with expertise. Meanwhile, theorists and researchers write about that sector with distance from the day-to-day practice. This article relies on the analogy of a bicycle wheel to understand the inter-workings of the nonprofit sector, as a whole. The analogy is understood and interpreted through the philosophical lens of Feminist Pragmatism and aims to begin a conversation among and between nonprofit researchers, practitioners, educators, and recipients of services. When all are in communion, the wheel functions perfectly.

Turnover, Megan Paul, Sarah Stepanek Sep 2023

Turnover, Megan Paul, Sarah Stepanek

Umbrella Summaries

What is turnover?

The definition of turnover tends to somewhat vary in practice and research. The most common element is an employee leaving their job. Beyond that, turnover can be further defined as internal vs. external, voluntary vs. involuntary, functional vs. dysfunctional, and avoidable vs. unavoidable.

  • Internal vs. external: Internal turnover means that the employee moves to a different job within the organization, whereas external means that the employee leaves the organization altogether. In child welfare, however, the “organization” may be defined as all of state or county government, which means that a lot of movement is considered internal.
  • Voluntary …

ETSU News

With a symphony of colors emerging in the highest elevations of the Appalachian Highlands, East Tennessee State University’s Travis Watson hopes regional leaf peepers appreciate the raw beauty of the area.

“The botanical diversity of the Southern Appalachian forests, consisting of over 100 species of deciduous hardwoods, provides a broad color palette and can provide a slightly longer display than the maple-dominated forests of the Northeast,” said Watson, the university’s campus arborist.

For Watson, a few trees are especially striking:

Maples are “the star of the show, and sugar maple is my favorite because I love the orange-to-yellow gradient …

For years, the Bud Frank Theatre was the site of many performances and productions at East Tennessee State University, and it will continue to be a hub for the arts with the new “Cinema at the Bud Frank Theatre.”

The theater will serve the community as a site of entertainment and enrichment – and the only art cinema in the region outside of Asheville, North Carolina.

“This is important, because half of the films released – indeed, half the Oscar contenders – do not play in Northeast Tennessee on initial release,” said Dr. Matthew Holtmeier, an associate professor in the …

The Philippines also maintained a beneficial economic relationship with the States at this time through extensive foreign trade. However, because of the Japanese invasion, the Philippine economy was robbed of this profitable foreign trade and the promise of independence, severely crippling the island nation and her morale. The first policies implemented by Japan were designed to control the …
