The ten-year anniversary (!) of the CUNY Games Conference combines workshops, idea exchanges, interactive participant presentations, playtesting, and playing tabletop games into a two-day hybrid event to promote and discuss game-based learning. The conference focuses on creative pedagogy, such as playful learning activities or games, that teachers can use in the classroom every day. Day 1 featured interactive presentations by attendees, informal idea exchange sessions, and workshops by the conference organizers. Day 2 featured select presentations and workshops, poster sessions, playtesting and game modding, and casual play of tabletop games.

Commitments of “getting to zero” or becoming a regenerative company are raising investor, customer, and employee expectations at a time when businesses are struggling just to reduce negative impacts. Executives are increasingly caught between wanting to build a better world and the reality of managing value-add activities that continue to harm people and the environment. Businesses need to distinguish between three types of innovation impacts to maintain their credibility and legitimacy. The first is doing less harm, where the goal is to minimize social wrongs and reduce ecological footprints. The second is incremental positive impact, where the goal is to …

Research methodology
Case information was mainly acquired through interviews with Richard Gammans, chief operating officer. Dr Gammans was a visiting professor at Fayetteville State University for a year, and two of the case authors developed personal friendships with Richard. Interviews were conducted over a two-year period as the accelerator got started. In addition, one author conducted a team-building session with the management team and one of the bio-startup researchers. An interview was also conducted with Clayton Duncan, chief executive officer, to gain his agreement with developing the case.
The Accele website included a write-up on each of the pharmaceutical startup …
Deferred Grazing And Sheep At The Break Of Season In South West Western Australia, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Deferred Grazing And Sheep At The Break Of Season In South West Western Australia, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Animal production and livestock factsheets
Grazing annual pastures in the first 12 days after germination can lower the productivity of pastures during winter by removing poorly rooted plants, and by reducing plant leaf area to sub-optimal levels. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) recommends deferring grazing of pasture paddocks at the break-of-season until feed on offer is at least 500–800 kilograms of dry matter per hectare (kg DM/ha). At this level, pasture plants are likely to be firmly rooted and have sufficient leaf area to be productively grazed.

Despite considerable research on the factors influencing the use of e-government, citizens are apprehensive of e-government services due to the concerns primarily related to trust, risk, security and privacy. This study presents a meta-analytic structural equation modeling (MASEM) analysis of the findings reported by 68 prior empirical studies on e-government adoption. Specifically, the model examined the direct effects of trust in government, trust in internet, perceived risk, and perceived privacy and security on e-government trust, and its impact on users’ behavioral intention to use e-government. The findings bear significant theoretical and practical implications.

Integrating Environmental And Entrepreneurship Advocacy Into Enviropreneurship Through Green Supply Chain Management, Waste Management, And Green Innovation: A Study On Smes Of Us, Rizwana Rasheed, Aamir Rashid, Noor Aina Amirah, Rashid Hashmi
Publications and Research
Many entrepreneurs across the US are the key players in building a greener economy. Their agility and innovative spirit offer a source of potential solutions. This is especially true for small businesses, which can quickly adapt to sustainable practices. Therefore, this research investigated the direct and indirect (mediating) roles of waste management and green innovations in green supply chain management and enviropreneurship performance, which is a transition from environmental to enviropreneurship advocacy. This study used a deductive approach with a quantitative research method. A study of a survey for 835 supply chain professionals in US small and medium enterprises used …

Organizations thrive more abundantly when both men and women hold leadership roles and work together. Gender inclusivity in leadership benefits not only Utah’s businesses but also its government organizations, such as state legislatures, city councils, and state and local bureaucracies.1
American democracy is based on the concept of representation.2 Governments mirror this idea by encouraging agencies to employ a workforce that shares the demographic characteristics of the community it serves.3 In fact, the presence of a diverse public workforce “implies equal access to government positions promoting empowerment and connection with government in diverse communities, [and] can also …

Retail Investors' Activity And Climate Disasters, Marinela Adriana Finta
Retail Investors' Activity And Climate Disasters, Marinela Adriana Finta
Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics
We analyze the effects of climate disasters on retail investors’ trading activity. Results show that retail investors trade significantly less during and around climate disasters, and retail buyers exhibit higher returns than sellers. Climate disasters weaken the positive return predictability of the past month’s order imbalances while strengthening it for the past six month’s order imbalances. In the short run, firms within climate disaster counties with retail net buying underperform those with negative imbalances. Instead, in the long run, firms within and outside climate disaster counties with positive order flows outperform those with negative order flows. Finally, the estimates on …

Fan Networks In Women’S Sport: An Egocentric Analysis Of Social Fans And Isofans, Matthew Katz, Nicole E. Melton, Risa F. Isard, Nola Agha
Sport Management
Guided by network theory, the purpose of this paper is to explore the consumption networks of Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) fans. Through an egocentric network analysis, the authors utilize hierarchical linear modeling to examine the strength of consumption ties among WNBA fans during the 2019 season. Initial results revealed an unexpected finding – the presence of participants who reported having no fan-to-fan ties, whom we term IsoFans. A second sample of men’s basketball fans was then collected to serve as a comparative confirmation of the unexpected result, whereby IsoFans occurred in the men’s sport sample at a much lower …
The Role Of Macroprudential Policies Under Carbon Pricing, Maria Teresa Punzi
The Role Of Macroprudential Policies Under Carbon Pricing, Maria Teresa Punzi
Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics
This paper analyses the effectiveness of macroprudential policy on macro-financial fluctuations when the government enforces carbon pricing to reduce carbon emissions and achieve the net-zero target. A carbon tax policy alone can reduce carbon emissions by 2030, but at the cost of a deep and prolonged recession, with consequential financial instability due to a higher probability of default on entrepreneurs in the brown sector. This result suggests that carbon pricing should be coupled with complementary policies, such as macroprudential policy. In particular, differentiated LTV ratios and differentiated capital requirements that penalize the brown sector in favour of the green sector …

Navigating Consumption Streams: Toward A Utilitarian–Hedonic Perspective On Subscription Box Customer Journeys, Ishani Banerji, Aditya Gupta, Seth Ketron
Publications
Given persistent challenges faced by subscription box retailers in acquiring and retaining customers, there is an urgent need to understand decision-making and sources of value at each stage of the subscription box customer journey. As extant research has frequently focused on the customers' decision to subscribe, relatively little work has explored why they choose to continue or cancel their subscriptions. We contend that a way forward in understanding subscription box customer journeys is to adopt a utilitarian–hedonic perspective when looking at each stage of such journeys. We conduct phenomenological in-depth interviews with 26 subscription box customers and use the thematic …

Exploring The Dual Impact: Dissecting The Impact Of Tourism Agglomeration On Low-Carbon Agriculture, Qiang Zhou, Xinyue Ye, Alberto Gianoli, Wanrong Hou
Management Faculty Publications
Despite extensive research on the relationship between tourism and agriculture, the specific impact of tourism on agriculture's low-carbon transition has not been thoroughly investigated. This study analyzes the effects of tourism agglomeration on agricultural carbon intensity across 30 Chinese provinces from 2001 to 2020. It is framed within the context of rural digitalization, with a particular emphasis on the integration of agro-tourism and the total factor productivity of agriculture. Utilizing spatial econometric models, we find that tourism agglomeration hinders the low-carbon transition in agriculture by influencing carbon intensity both directly and indirectly. At the national level, the impact of …

A Systematic Literature Review Exploring How The Diversity Of National Cultures Impact The Transformation Success In Organisations, Mark Searing, A.Omar Portillo-Dominguez
Other
The purpose of this study is to investigate current academic thinking regarding how cultural differences impact transformation success. It analyses cultural dimensions and other factors and how they correlate to project management. Using SCOPUS as a search engine, peer-reviewed academic papers from the period 2019-2023 were analysed as part of a systematic literature review. Results were gathered and grouped into themes as well as cultural dimensions for in-deep analysis and discussion. The results of this study found consensus on the negative impact of cultural diversity on project outcomes, but a significantly lower level of agreement with respect to the specifics …

The Impact Of Republican Ceo Ideology And Political Alignment On R&D Spending And Business Performance, Chiquan Guo, Md Noman Hossain, Mark Kroll, Ahmed M. Elnahas, Brandon Ater

Based on a sample of firms in the S&P 1500 index covering the years 1993 to 2016, we find that firms with Republican CEOs spend less on R&D compared to their Democratic counterparts. However, Republican CEOs ratchet up their R&D spending when a Republican is in the Oval Office. Furthermore, we find that R&D spending is negatively related to return on assets (ROA), which is indicative of the risky nature of R&D spending, but R&D is positively related to Tobin Q, a longer-term performance measure. As a consequence, when Republican CEOs manage under a Republican president, the …

(Semi)Automated Approaches To Data Extraction For Systematic Reviews And Meta-Analyses In Social Sciences: A Living Review, Amanda Legate, Kim Nimon, Ashlee Noblin
Human Resource Development Faculty Publications and Presentations
Background
An abundance of rapidly accumulating scientific evidence presents novel opportunities for researchers and practitioners alike, yet such advantages are often overshadowed by resource demands associated with finding and aggregating a continually expanding body of scientific information. Data extraction activities associated with evidence synthesis have been described as time-consuming to the point of critically limiting the usefulness of research. Across social science disciplines, the use of automation technologies for timely and accurate knowledge synthesis can enhance research translation value, better inform key policy development, and expand the current understanding of human interactions, organizations, and systems. Ongoing developments surrounding automation are …
Towards Understanding The Post-Colonial In The Development Of Irish Economics, Joseph K. Fitzgerald Dr., Brendan K. O'Rourke
Towards Understanding The Post-Colonial In The Development Of Irish Economics, Joseph K. Fitzgerald Dr., Brendan K. O'Rourke
Conference Papers
This conference contribution is prompted by recent work where theories used to understand the economists in countries like France, Britain, Germany, and the USA (Fourcade, 2009; Maesse, 2015) were used to study the development of Irish economics profession. Work on Ireland (FitzGerald & O’Rourke, 2023), though using these frameworks, revealed the importance of Ireland’s colonial and post-colonial experiences in the social status of economics in today’s Ireland. Escobar (2011) points to the power of economists in development discourses focussing particularly on the case of Columbia and the interaction between USA economics with its southern neighbours in the period since the …

Assessing The Circular Economy Funds: Performance, Fees, Risks, And Sustainability, Fei Fang, Sitikantha Parida
School of Business
We studied various fund investing options in the circular economy sector. We found that most circular economy mutual funds and exchange-traded funds charge higher fees and take higher risks than their benchmarks. However, they appear to have underperformed their benchmarks during their short existence so far. Most of these funds are rated as sustainable and low-carbon funds. Investors keen on circular economy startups may consider private equity/venture capital funds, but most of these funds are exclusive to institutional and accredited investors.

Income inequality is a prominent contributor to health disparities in the U.S. As a leading capitalist nation, the U.S. registers the highest healthcare expenditure among developed countries yet grapples with widening income disparities. The chasm between the rich and the underprivileged has expanded significantly in recent decades, profoundly impacting American society. This study explores the nuances of income inequality, its ramifications, and potential remedies, analyzed through the Gini Coefficient. Advanced forecasting models, including AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average and Regression Analysis, are employed to anticipate future patterns. The research highlights the value of healthcare analytics in understanding the complexities of income …
