Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the accounting comparability and value relevance implications of the changes in the accounting for freight services in-process introduced through the adoption of EITF No. 91-9.

Design/methodology/approach: This is an empirical archival research paper using financial statement data and stock price information for the US transportation companies.

Findings: The results indicate that following the adoption of EITF No. 91-9, there is an increase in the level of accounting comparability for firms in the US transportation industries. This paper also finds that the reduction in the number of reporting options for revenues and …

Grey Swan is a relatively new construct that has not been adequately operationalised in supply chain management research. This work provides a supply chain management explanation and perspective on Grey Swans by distinguishing their characteristics relative to their more inconspicuous kindred, the Black Swans. Predictability and consequences are used to differentiate between the types of risk represented by black and grey swan events, as these are precursors to a set of descriptive and prescriptive (normative) views resulting from two pilot studies. We live in an era where research and development (R&D) innovation shapes the future of humanity. However, mixed results regarding the return on investment in R&D, as measured by national-level indicators, often leave policymakers uncertain about the long-term benefits of such investments. Ideally, R&D investments should yield returns by influencing key economic indicators. This study explores the multilevel effects of R&D investment on national economic performance, focusing on its secondary impacts on stock market valuation, industry value added, and patent activity, with attention to country characteristics such as technological advancement. Business Faculty Articles and Research

Roosevelt’s Bank Holiday in March 1933 aimed to halt bank runs and implement licensing for banks. Using a new hand-collected daily database, we examine how bank stocks and bond markets responded to this sweeping regulation. We find that New York City banks saw significant negative abnormal returns, while Chicago banks experienced positive returns, highlighting regional differences in perceptions of the policy. Corporate bond yields fell by 1.4 percentage points, lowering interest rates. Our findings show how markets reacted differently across regions and asset classes to this critical intervention.

This study evaluates the performance of U.S. data center Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) relative to major equity and technology benchmarks, using monthly returns from January 2000 through December 2024, with particular emphasis on the COVID-19 period and the subsequent post-vaccine era. Data center ETFs have not provided better risk-adjusted returns even though they are often advertised as access points to the digital economy. Digital infrastructure demand increased through the pandemic but did not improve the performance of these funds which stayed weak across both traditional and conditional multi-factor asset pricing models. Extractive industries such as mining and oil extraction drive habitat loss, soil erosion, water pollution, and biodiversity decline. While prior research has examined corporate environmental performance in these sectors, little is known about how internal governance mechanisms, particularly equitable shareholder treatment, relate to biodiversity outcomes. Drawing on legitimacy theory, which holds that fair treatment signals genuine commitment to societal expectations, strengthens a firm's social license, and motivates environmental stewardship, this study examines whether equitable shareholder practices promote biodiversity conservation. Using US and Canadian extractive firms from 2006 to 2020, we find that fair shareholder treatment is positively associated with better …

Spirituality And Perceived Insider Status: A Study Of Organizational Commitment Of African American Female Leaders In Fortune 1000 Companies, Toni Y. Stubbs

This quantitative study examined the relationships among spirituality, perceived insider status, and organizational commitment among African American female leaders within Fortune 1000 companies. Using a cross-sectional design, the research gathered data from 119 participants through online surveys that included the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS), the Perceived Insider Status Scale (PIS), and the Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ). Analyses included Pearson correlations and mediation modeling to address the research questions. The results revealed a strong, statistically significant relationship between perceived insider status and organizational commitment. Although spirituality did not directly predict organizational commitment, it demonstrated a small but significant mediating effect between …

The unprecedented surge in unemployment insurance claims during the COVID-19 pandemic exposed state labor agency systems in the United States to significant fraud risks, resulting in billions of dollars in improper payments. This study investigated the role of data analytics in detecting and mitigating unemployment insurance fraud, with a focus on state government responses. Using a single-case study approach, I examined how advanced data analytics, including machine learning, predictive modeling, and strategies to identify fraudulent claims, can reduce fraud within unemployment insurance systems. We advocate shared leadership as a key mechanism for unlocking innovation in family businesses. Family businesses, however, typically emphasize hierarchical leadership, reflecting the family power structure, which can pose challenges for successful innovation by limiting resources and knowledge sharing between family and non-family members. Shared leadership, enabled by both empowering from formal hierarchical leaders, as well as self-leadership practices across the organization, can help to overcome this challenge by leveraging the familiness, and related social capital, present in family businesses. Purpose: To evaluate the impact of a standardized onboarding program on Advanced Practice Provider (APP) retention and productivity within an academic department.

Background: High APP turnover in specialized settings disrupts care and leads to financial losses. Previously, onboarding lacked structure, leading to early attrition and delayed productivity. A 24-week phased, competency-based orientation program was developed to improve retention, job satisfaction, and clinical performance.

Methods: The program, implemented in April 2024, included clinical precepting, didactic modules, and mentorship. Retention and Relative Value Units (RVUs) were measured before and after implementation. Qualitative data was collected through mentorship surveys and APP focus groups. …

Monte Carlo (MC) simulation has several applications in finance, including risk management, valuation, and portfolio management. In this paper, we use multiple correlated Geometric Brownian motion (GBM) processes that allow for very robust portfolio analysis. In this treatment, five correlated funds make up a portfolio. MC is used to not only forecast possible future portfolio and fund outcomes, but to also evaluate the benefits and costs of a hedging strategy and to consider the effects of different correlation structures between the funds on portfolio performance.
