Trust in universities, once a bedrock institution of modern society, is fraying. Affordability, political scrutiny, and cultural divides weigh heavily. Readers are all too aware of the wrenching developments: funding cuts, visa restrictions, pauses in student enrolment processes. These concerns are not confined to US universities only. From Australia to the United Kingdom to South Korea to the Global South, university leaders face parallel strains — affordability, governance, and relevance — and feel the weight of a future under siege.

This policy proposal introduces Bio-Resilience Bonds (BRBs), a performance-based financial instrument designed to monetise microbial ecosystem services as measurable climate infrastructure. Microbial ecosystems are crucial for climate resilience, yet they are often overlooked in mainstream adaptation f inance frameworks. Their ability to regulate carbon and nitrogen cycles, reduce methane emissions and enhance soil and water stability (Delgado-Baquerizo et al., 2016) makes them essential assets for climate mitigation and adaptation. Despite global recognition of Indigenous people participation , existing frameworks under the UNFCCC and mechanisms often lack enforceable safeguards to protect Indigenous sovereignty. The paper identifies critical gaps in governance, particularly the absence of Indigenous-led oversight in Carbon markets. This study examines how aligning executive cash bonuses with firm strategic orientation influences firm performance. While prior research mainly focuses on stock-based incentives and linear effects, we address critical gaps by analyzing cash bonuses and exploring nonlinear relationships using polynomial regression and response surface analysis. We adopt Miles and Snow’s typology and focus on prospector and defender firms, representing the two ends of the strategic continuum. Our findings indicate that aligning executive cash bonuses and firm strategy significantly enhances future performance. Neither cash nor stock incentives alone, without strategic alignment, substantially improve performance. Polynomial regression results reveal an inverted U-shaped …

The 2015 Paris Agreement paved the way for the carbon trade economy, which has since evolved but has not attained a substantial magnitude. While carbon credit exchange is a critical mechanism for achieving global climate targets, it faces persistent challenges related to transparency, double-counting, and verification. This paper examines how Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) can address these limitations by providing immutable transaction records, automated verification through digitally encoded smart contracts, and increased market efficiency. Who Gets Stitches? The Effects Of Rewarding Whistleblowers And Protecting Their Identity On Subsequent Willingness To Work With Others, Ryan D. Sommerfeldt

Companies are strongly encouraged to implement whistleblowing programs to help detect and deter misconduct in organizations, but whistleblowers often face ostracism as their coworkers are less willing to work with them (the whistleblower effect). Rewarding the whistleblower and protecting the whistleblower’s identity are two highly recommended features of whistleblowing programs that aim to encourage reporting. Across two experiments, I examine the spillover effects of these whistleblowing program features on how willing employees are to work with their coworkers after reporting occurs. I find that providing a reward to the whistleblower exacerbates the whistleblower effect, leading employees to work even less …

During the COVID-19 pandemic, 11.5 million U.S. businesses applied for relief from the federal government. Collectively, these entities received just under 800 billion dollars. It was one of the largest fiscal intervention policies directed at businesses in American history. Though substantial scholarly and public attention has gone toward investigating participant fraud, other participant behavior has been less examined. This includes the relatively small number of individuals and businesses (128,304) that chose to repay their forgivable government loans. This dataset is used to investigate this question, with variables testing hypotheses relating to altruism, patriotism, and self-interest. Results are analyzed in the …

One emerging innovation is behavioral assessment software, designed to enhance both pre-employment screening and investigative interviewing. Acting as a form of modern human intelligence collection, these tools enable examiners and investigators to gather deeper insights directly from candidates and subjects, revealing behavioral cues and risk indicators that might otherwise remain hidden (Vrij, 2008).

Rutger Bregman’S Vision: Moral Ambition Without Imagination, Vladimir Snurenco

This review critiques Rutger Bregman’s top-down blueprint—higher taxes, new laws, and big-ticket nonprofits—as a centralized moralism that sidelines the institutions that actually nurture prosperity and dignity: family, church, enterprise, and local associations. I contrast Bregman’s Robin-Hood rhetoric (and his School for Moral Ambition) with a subsidiarity-driven vision rooted in Tocqueville, Kuyper, and Nisbet, and with Michael Pakaluk’s call for vocation within business. Drawing on research by Owen Zidar (the “stealthy wealthy”) and The Millionaire Next Door, I argue Bregman caricatures the rich and misunderstands how wealth is created.
