Ai2 (Ai Intelligence) Project For The University Classroom, Asia Yang, Jessica Furrow Apr 2025

Ai2 (Ai Intelligence) Project For The University Classroom, Asia Yang, Jessica Furrow

Seaver College Research And Scholarly Achievement Symposium

While artificial intelligence (AI) is not a new concept, the release of ChatGPT by OpenAI has significantly increased public interest in its applications. AI refers to machines performing tasks that require human cognition. Since Turing’s (1950) introduction of the theory of computation and the imitation game, scientists have worked to develop machines that “think”; like humans. This progress has led to deep learning models that simulate complex decision-making processes (Davoodi, 2024). This study presents an assignment that encourages students to explore AI tools for potential industry applications while comparing their work with AI-generated content. Additionally, we assess student engagement using …

Beyond The Finish Line: How Mindset & Setbacks Shape Future Success In High School Sprinters, Hannah Lybbert

Student Research Symposium

Introduction

Across many domains, mindset has been shown to affect performance; however, quantifying that belief can be challenging to do empirically.

Track and Field 100m results provide a perfect environment to attempt to quantify the magnitude of the effect of mindset on performance – timing equipment and wind sensors never lie!

Women In Accounting, Heidi Sundberg Apr 2025

Women In Accounting, Heidi Sundberg

Student Research Symposium

There is currently a shortage of about 340,000 accountants in the US, which is detrimental to companies.

  • However, especially in Utah, there are many women who graduated in accounting but don’t stay in the field for very long. These women could help to fill the shortage, which would be beneficial for them to grow as professionals and for companies.
  • My hypothesis is that employers aren’t aware of all the barriers that women face in the accounting field.

Estimating Equivalent Annual Costs: A Comparative Analysis Of Electric And Traditional Roadways, Noelia Garcia Weidling Apr 2025

Estimating Equivalent Annual Costs: A Comparative Analysis Of Electric And Traditional Roadways, Noelia Garcia Weidling

Student Research Symposium

As electric vehicle (EV) adoption increases, new infrastructure like Electric Road Systems (ERS)—which wirelessly charge EVs while driving—is being explored. While promising, ERS are more expensive to build and maintain than traditional roads.

Because U.S. roads are primarily funded by taxpayers, this project explores:

• Traditional roadway costs and ERS costs

• Ways to recover that investment in a sustainable, fair way.

Learning Food Supply Chains Through Generative Ai – Tips, Techniques, And Student Perceptions, Subbu Kumarappan, Urmila Pal Chaudhuri

National Collaborative for Research on Food, Energy, and Water Education (NC-FEW)

The classroom pedagogies are evolving significantly with Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). The students in a Food Supply Chains class completed a project for various agricultural products describing 12 factors and 7 supply chain principles. They reflected on the use of GenAI and how it impacted their knowledge and critical thinking skills. The students scored GenAI high on ‘relevancy, diverse topics, significance, and sufficiency;' the repeated use of GenAI for food supply chains enabled them recognize the importance of sustainability and ESG factors in the management of natural resources. There were differences in students use and benefits with GenAI use.

Ai In Business Education: Are Educators Ready To Integrate Emerging Tools?, Molly J. Wickam Feb 2025

Ai In Business Education: Are Educators Ready To Integrate Emerging Tools?, Molly J. Wickam

Day of Scholarship

Few studies have assessed artificial intelligence (AI) awareness and readiness among business educators or examined AI integration in education through a theoretical lens. This study, informed by the TPACK framework, explored the AI awareness and readiness of secondary and post-secondary business educators to guide educational stakeholders in supporting AI adoption. Using a non-experimental, descriptive design with quantitative survey methods, the study analyzed responses from business educators in the United States using descriptive and correlational statistics. Findings indicate that while most educators are interested in incorporating AI-based tools, they lack knowledge on effective classroom applications. Many use AI for personal tasks …

Integrating Emotional And Cultural Intelligence, Jeanine L. Parolini Feb 2025

Integrating Emotional And Cultural Intelligence, Jeanine L. Parolini

Day of Scholarship

This presentation addresses a critical gap in the literature, both biblically and theoretically, on the integration of emotional intelligence (EI) and cultural intelligence (CI). These two factors significantly impact leaders, employees, teams, and organizations, fostering positive outcomes when present and creating challenges when absent. As workplaces and communities face growing polarization, the demand for EI and CI is increasing. Integrating these competencies enhances relationships, promotes understanding, and facilitates productive dialogue. This presentation explores how EI and CI can bridge divides and improve societal interactions. Biblical insights and practical examples will demonstrate their application in personal and professional settings. Imagine how …

We propose a 6-step strategy to build trust at a distance. They include Amplify Communication, Clarify Direction, Establish Predictability, Redefine Accountability, Create Connection, and Equip your Workforce.

Internationalization And Investment Efficiency, Alireza Askarzadeh, Kenneth Yung Jan 2025

Internationalization And Investment Efficiency, Alireza Askarzadeh, Kenneth Yung

Graduate Student Government Association Research Conference

Conflicting results in the literature regarding the effect of internationalization on firm performance motivate this study to examine this effect through an important but less studied channel. Unlike previous literature mainly focusing on the impact of internationalization on firm financial performance, this study examines operational performance and probes how internationalization affects firms’ investment inefficiency, thus demonstrating an important aspect in determining the success of international strategies. By applying the concepts of transaction cost economics and agency theory to a sample of US firms between 1989 and 2022, we find evidence that internationalization has a positive relationship with investment inefficiency and …

Posters-at-the-Capitol

The grocery retail industry landscape has changed greatly in the wake of the pandemic. Specifically, delivery and pickup services have become more popular and customer buying habits have evolved. At the same time, improvements in data collection and analysis have allowed grocery marketing strategies to become highly individualized.

We worked with 84.51, an analytics firm, to identify customer segments for the Kroger Company based on data from 2023. Using clustering techniques, we organized customers into groups, or segments, based on similar characteristics. We identified and profiled four distinct groups of customers. Three segments were characterized by high frequency and spending …

Predicting Hazardous Near-Earth Objects Using Machine Learning for Planetary Defense

This research develops a machine learning model to classify Near-Earth Objects (NEOs) as hazardous or non-hazardous based on their physical and orbital characteristics, leveraging NASA's dataset of certified NEOs. NEOs, including asteroids and comets, often pass within close proximity to Earth, and while most pose no threat, some have the potential for catastrophic impacts. By using predictive models such as decision trees and random forests, this study aims to prioritize resources for monitoring and mitigation of high-risk objects. The model incorporates key features like velocity, diameter, and proximity to Earth …
