Whilst prior research is available on substance abuse and resources have been allocated from various governmental agencies and private organizations, the effects of substance abuse issues continue to persist within Appalachia. A constant variable in mitigating recidivism in substance abuse is employment. Monetary Policy In China: A Factor Augmented Var Approach, Boniface Yemba, Biyan Tang, Erick Kitenge

We use a Factor-Augmented VAR (FAVAR) model to investigate the effectiveness of monetary policy in China. As the Chinese economy is an open economy, our FAVAR model divides the macroeconomic variables into three groups. The first group contains measures of external shock to Chinese economy while others groups contain the measure of output and price. This approach allows factors to have an economic interpretation. We estimate our model with the maximum likelihood technique and that an increase in the change of money supply "Divisia M2"has substantial and direct impact on Chinese economic activity and inflation. Merit-based aid is known to increase college attendance and completion. By altering the economic costs of higher education and providing incentives for academic excellence such programs increase the educational attainment of student populations. In a similar vein, West Virginia’s college scholarship program, PROMISE has been found to improve educational outcomes of college attendees and facilitate on-time degree completion among scholarship recipients. However, little is known about the scholarship’s impact on college-going rates. For a state with historically low rates of college attendance this is a pertinent question. Foreign Aid Allocation And Conflict In Sub-Saharan Africa: A Spatial Analytical Approach, Yi Duan

This project uses geographic information systems (GIS) skills to test the effect of foreign aid on conflict occurrences and fatalities at local level in Sub-Saharan Africa. Using lagged aid variables as the instruments for current aid, negative relationship between current aid and future conflict is detected. Aid is effective to deter conflict when conflict events happening in short period or particular types of conflict events are under way. Income per capita, with night lights per capita as proxy, has non-linear impacts on conflict occurrences. Foreign aid can alleviate conflict and help Sub-Saharan countries to jump out of the low-income-conflict trap.

Implementation of Personal Health Record interoperability requires the adoption of national standards. These standards have been driven by regulation. The Center for Information Technology Leadership (CITL) estimates PHRs could result in an annual net value of nineteen-billion dollars. This is based on cost savings to healthcare providers and payers over a ten-year implementation period with an 80% U.S. adoption rate.

According to the WEF Global Competitiveness Report (2017), Germany’s infrastructure ranked eighth in the world. The public investment in Germany has increased significantly in last thirty years. The government gross fixed capital formation increased by 37% in 2018 in comparison to 1990 (German Finance Ministry, 2018). The government gross fixed capital formation in relation to nominal GDP (the investment-to-GDP ratio) was 2.6% in 2018, compared with 1.7% in 2001.These outstanding public infrastructure system and investment profiles are likely a consequences of the country’s healthy public finances, robust institutional framework, structural reforms, and continuous public investments to boost competitiveness.

Unfortunately, although these rewards have been proven to yield desired outcomes, their impacts are short lived as managers create an environment based on extrinsic motivation. The purpose of this presentation is to introduce and evaluate the economic effect of sustainability on the value of the publicly traded shares of Nike, Inc. Nike, Inc. is a successful multinational corporation with $36.4 billion of revenues in 2018, over 73,000 employees and 1,000 retail stores, and contract manufacturing facilities in more than 30 countries. Nike started incorporating sustainability, and subsequently reporting about it, after a public relations crisis in the late 1990s involving sub-standard conditions at its many contract manufacturing facilities. The purpose of this study was to examine qualifications, characteristics, successes and motivations among leading social entrepreneurs in not-for-profit or for-profit organizations. Based on an interview guide developed by Dr. Juanie Walker and Heet Ghodasara, Ghodasara conducted interviews with 20 leaders of social entrepreneurship/innovation strategically located in Washington, D.C. Thematic analysis of interview transcripts revealed traits of successful organizations and individuals supported by provocative quotes. Themes of successful organizations include system disruptions, mutual investment, broad network and founder obsolescence. The importance of employees within a firm has led to an increased need in maximizing performance and productivity, while also minimizing the stress levels of employees. This study provides insight into two types of workload assignment of (1) receiving a task all at once, or (2) receiving a task broken up. It investigates how matching subjects’ workload assignment preference (WAP) can impact performance, productivity, and stress levels.
