Twenty-five years ago, Utah State University organized an awards program designed to promote and recognize excellent manufacturing organizations throughout the United States. Known as The Shigeo Shingo Prizes for Excellence in Manufacturing, the awards were named for Japanese industrial engineer Shigeo Shingo. The same year the awards were created, Shingo received an honorary doctorate from Utah State University for having distinguished himself as one of the world’s thought leaders in operational excellence.

The purpose of this study was to research the state of affairs in Qatar in terms of the presence (or absence) of women in senior business leadership positions generally, and also where they are located within organizations (e.g., board members, chief officers, vice presidents, top management, division or unit heads). It is based on data mined from a major database in the Middle East North Africa (MENA), that tracks information about public and private companies in that region.

Doctors routinely advise patients to avoid a wide range of unhealthy behavior, such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, a poor diet, and lack of exercise. Beyond these salutary suggestions, however, there is also a growing paternalistic trend to prohibit activities like smoking—and through targeted taxation, governments are taking aim at food deemed unhealthy for having too much fat, preservatives, salt, or sugar. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's ban on large, sugary drinks was just ruled unconstitutional in a unanimous decision by the state Supreme Court's Appellate Division—but this ruling isn't likely to discourage hardened advocates.

Investment Performance And Price-Earnings Ratios: Basu 1977 Revisited, Richard John Criddle

In this work I reexamined Basu’s 1977 work using an out-of-sample, out-of-period test on the returns of a sample of common stock for the period February 2003 to December 2012, from the viewpoint of a rational investor wishing to use data for investment approaches. The data was examined for normalcy, and similar methodology and definitions of ratios and return were used in order to closely follow Basu’s work. I found that the assets in the sample used here do not display the same results found by Basu in regard to the relationship between returns and price-earnings ratio under either the …
