The purpose of this study was to determine whether the needs of the physically handicapped traveler are being met by the hotels in the City of Miami Beach, Florida. A sample was drawn from the hotel population. Mail questionnaires and personal interviews were used as the methods for collecting the data from the sample. The data was compiled and a hotel mean was computed. A mean was also calculated from the standards recommended by the American National Standards Institute to the American Hotel and Motel Association. The hospitality industry has been one of the last major business segments in the United States to utilize the computer and its capabilities. Everyone associated with the industry and data processing has contributed to this delay: manufacturers have been very slow to identify and recognize the potential that exists in the hotel industry; data processors have often unwisely attempted to apply the successful solutions of other industries' problems to the hospitality industry; and lodging management has demonstrated little interest and contributed inadequate amounts of physical and economical resources.

Attempts to modify dietary habits of individuals in order to improve their nutrition do not seem to have met with success. Patterns established by individuals appear to continue throughout their lifetime. Diet patterns are influenced by society, families, and peer groups.

From pre-school through adolescence environmental factors of influence are ever present. Influences may be the result of hereditary attitudes passed from generation to generation. However, the need for diet improvement seems primary. Research to discover methods or systems to affect such habits is needed from the science of nutrition.
