Rigorous experimentation is emerging as the preferred method for validating the benefits of protocols, especially those affecting quality of service. The emulation of traffic generators provides a compact and efficient method for testing protocols and techniques in a realistic context. Models of user behavior serve as the basis for the trafgen traffic emulator and are subject to refinement as our knowledge expands. Introduction The U.S. furniture industry has changed dramatically in recent years. Furniture manufacturers, for example, have recently faced competition from foreign producers that has been particularly intense – resulting in factory closings and job losses in many areas of the country, including the Mid-South. In Mississippi, for example, the number of employees in furniture and fixtures industries dropped by 2,100 (6.8%) in the year 2000 (Center for Policy Research and Planning 2001). Similar job losses have been occurring in Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina and other important furniture-producing states. Nationwide, employment in furniture and fixtures manufacturing dropped by 40,000 (7.2%) from …

This paper reports that the benefits accrued from implementing and integrating Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can be conceptualized into two factors. First, firms derive operational/tactical benefits by predominantly focusing on increasing internal utility of this technology. Second, firms derive strategic benefits from EDI in the form of better external relationships and alliances with trading partners and an enhanced ability to compete in their market. Telecentres are an important type of information and communication technology (ICT) system particularly assisting rural and urban communities in developing countries, but the focus is often put on social development, sometimes on static economic returns, and rarely on dynamic economic aspects. This paper develops a basis for understanding the factors behind financial success in a dynamic setting based on the concept of increasing returns. This is applied to telecentres according to the stage of maturity of their information services. A case study has been conducted on a pharmaceutical firm based in Malaysia. The framework of this study was constructed based on the adapted version of Checkland's Soft System Methodology (SSM). The organisation that under­studied was being tested on its viability towards a planned change. A set of diagnostics tools was applied to calibrate the organisation's operating system. In the inquiry stage for the real world, the six level organisational diagnostics, self-actuation diagnostic, organisation dissipativeness diagnostic and the actor system diagnostic (Yusef Omar, 2001) was used. Despite echoing skepticism about the long-term prospects for commercial global domains based in part on how they are governed, this paper concludes that nominal addresses are essentially a new form of intellectual property, to be viewed and managed in ways sometimes fundamentally different from trademarks and other indicia of commercial goodwill. In support, the article first reviews the domain name system ("DNS") under which nominal addresses may be registered. The article then outlines central principles of unfair competition law underlying the resolution of disputes within the United States.
