From Disciplinary Silos To Cyber-Transdisciplinary Networks: A Plural Epistemic Model For Agi-Era Knowledge Production, Cristo Leon, James Lipuma Dec 2025

From Disciplinary Silos To Cyber-Transdisciplinary Networks: A Plural Epistemic Model For Agi-Era Knowledge Production, Cristo Leon, James Lipuma

STEM for Success Resources

This article extends a keynote from the 16th IMCIC 2025, offering a framework for academic institutions navigating the epistemic shifts prompted by artificial general intelligence (AGI). It argues that traditional disciplinary (Mode 1), interdisciplinary (Mode 2), and transdisciplinary (Mode 3) approaches are increasingly insufficient to address the complexity and plurality of AGI-era knowledge production. Drawing on critical communication theories—such as the Kuhn–MacIntyre thesis on incommensurability, the Bataille–Lyotard notion of invention, Nicolescu–Ostrom's governance frameworks, and Haraway–Scholz's situated knowledge—the article introduces Mode 4: cyber-transdisciplinarity.1 This mode conceptualizes AGI as an epistemic co-agent, enabling real-time mediation, synthesis, and redistribution of knowledge between human …

Capstones

Boeing’s post McDonnell Douglas merger saw a shift from engineering-led decision-making to shareholder-driven priorities. This change is at the root of major safety failures, production issues, and ripple effects across the aviation labor market and supply chain. The appointment of CEO Kelly Ortberg, an engineer with deep aerospace experience, marked a turning point as he emphasized safety, transparency, training, and cultural reform, including mandatory safety systems and stricter competency standards. Boeing has shown signs of recovery through improved earnings, rising stock value, renewed FAA trust, and increased industry confidence. Though the company has not fully regained its pre-pandemic standing, experts …

How Organizational Characteristics Influence The Choice Of Performance Measures: A Large-Scale Empirical Study, Ravi Kathuria, Lorenzo Lucianetti Dec 2025

How Organizational Characteristics Influence The Choice Of Performance Measures: A Large-Scale Empirical Study, Ravi Kathuria, Lorenzo Lucianetti

Business Faculty Articles and Research

Despite the growing emphasis on performance measurement, empirical evidence linking the selection of performance measures to distinct organizational characteristics remains limited. Moreover, practical guidance on selecting appropriate performance measures for different organizational contexts is often ambiguous or absent. This study addresses these gaps through a large-scale empirical analysis of 372 organizations across diverse industry sectors. It provides validation for the hypothesized contingency effects of various organizational characteristics—such as size, structure, and global exposure—on performance measurement choices. The findings support our contention that no single performance measure is universally optimal; rather, the suitability of specific measures depends on the organization’s contextual …

Designing A Scalable Recruitment & Partnership System For The Leadership And Business Strategy (Lbs) Program Through Strategic Marketing And Brand Development, Daniela Padilla

Honors Theses

The Leadership and Business Strategy (LBS) program at Western Michigan University delivers a highly immersive experience that allows students to learn business by doing business. Students engage directly with executives, including CEOs, working alongside them on complex consulting projects with real companies. The program takes place at Sleeping Giant Capital, a Michigan-based private equity firm, where students operate in a real business environment and gain exposure to high-level strategy and decision-making. Yet despite its impact, many students only discover LBS after enrolling at the university. Student data reinforces this gap, showing that while most students know their intended major before …

The Impact Of Market And Nonmarket Strategies On Firm Performance In Lithuania, John A. Parnell, Michael W. Davidson Dec 2025

The Impact Of Market And Nonmarket Strategies On Firm Performance In Lithuania, John A. Parnell, Michael W. Davidson

Economic and Business Review

This study examines the impact of market strategies (global growth, differentiation, and cost leadership) and nonmarket strategies (political engagement and social responsibility) on firm performance in Lithuania. Based on survey data from 114 managers analyzed using partial least squares structural equation (PLS-SEM) modeling, a global growth/differentiation strategy has a positive impact on performance, whereas cost leadership does not. Nonmarket strategies positively influence firm performance, with larger firms benefiting more, ostensibly due to greater resource availability and institutional influence. Firm size moderates the relationship between nonmarket strategies and performance, highlighting the importance of tailoring strategies to an organization's specific characteristics. By …

The Impact Of Cumulative Career Experience Of Internal Control Managers On Firms' Efficiency In Different Information Environments, Inkyung Yoon, Hansol Lee, Dongjoon Choi Dec 2025

The Impact Of Cumulative Career Experience Of Internal Control Managers On Firms' Efficiency In Different Information Environments, Inkyung Yoon, Hansol Lee, Dongjoon Choi

Economic and Business Review

This study investigates the effect of internal control (IC) managers' cumulative career experience on the operational efficiency of Korean listed firms between 2018 and 2020. Building on the premise that managers with extensive experience positively influence ICs and the internal information environment, this study hypothesises that cumulative career experience of an IC manager is also positively associated with a firm's operational efficiency. To empirically assess efficiency, this study applies data envelopment analysis (DEA), a nonparametric technique that evaluates relative efficiency based on multiple input and output measures. The results suggest that IC managers with greater cumulative experience significantly enhance a …

Institutional Isomorphism, Top Management Commitment, And Environmental Disclosure In Tanzania’S Construction Sector, Aulelius Lema, Siasa Issa Mzenzi Dec 2025

Institutional Isomorphism, Top Management Commitment, And Environmental Disclosure In Tanzania’S Construction Sector, Aulelius Lema, Siasa Issa Mzenzi

Business Management Review

This study examined the influence of institutional isomorphism on environmental disclosure (ED) in Tanzania’s construction sector and the mediating role of top management commitment (TMC). A cross-sectional design was employed, with data collected from 314 construction firms. Environmental disclosure was measured using content analysis of financial reports, and Structural Equation Modelling using the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) method was used to estimate the structural model. The findings reveal that coercive, normative, and mimetic pressures significantly impact ED. The result also indicates that TMC significantly affects ED and mediates mimetic pressure’s effect, but does not mediate coercive or normative pressures. Similarly, …

Is Artificial Intelligence Really Taking Our Jobs?, Francesca A. Strom Dec 2025

Is Artificial Intelligence Really Taking Our Jobs?, Francesca A. Strom

Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects

This paper studies how artificial intelligence has reshaped occupational opportunities in the United States by analyzing changes in employment, median wages, and wage inequality across all occupations from 2014 through 2024. Using a difference-in-differences framework, I compare occupations associated with AI-related tasks to those not directly exposed to generative AI, with particular attention to the structural break introduced by the mainstream release of generative AI tools in 2022. The results show no statistically significant decline in employment among AI-exposed occupations, indicating that early adoption did not lead to measurable job displacement. Instead, the strongest effects appear in wage inequality. Among …

The Importance Of Leader-Member Exchange And Psychological Contracts In Highly Qualified Researchers, Robin L. Ingerick Dba Dec 2025

The Importance Of Leader-Member Exchange And Psychological Contracts In Highly Qualified Researchers, Robin L. Ingerick Dba

Theses & Dissertations

This study examined the significance of the relationship between leader-member exchange (LMX) and psychological contracts in United States-based research organizations. When the organization-manager-employee relationship deteriorates, psychological contract breaches can occur, negatively affecting employee outcomes and the organization's financial success and stability. Existing knowledge highlights several factors that influence relationships, including reciprocated treatment, work behaviors and reactions, trust, professional respect, affect, mutual interaction, work autonomy, communication, job satisfaction, and fulfillment. The study sought to determine to what extent is there a predictive relationship between LMX and psychological contracts (employee obligations, employer obligations, fulfillment, and contract transitions) of highly qualified United States-based …

Self-Effficacy And Emotional Intelligence In Young Females; Filling The Leadership Pipeline Through Youth Development Programs, Annette Cherie Vargason Dec 2025

Self-Effficacy And Emotional Intelligence In Young Females; Filling The Leadership Pipeline Through Youth Development Programs, Annette Cherie Vargason

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

The persistent underrepresentation of women in leadership positions remains a significant global concern, stemming from systemic barriers and lower self-efficacy reported by women in leadership contexts. Current trends suggest it could take another 50 years to achieve gender parity in leadership roles. This disparity highlights a need for effective early interventions to nurture leadership skills and confidence in young women. This study examined the relationship between self-efficacy (SE), emotional intelligence (EI), and leadership aspirations among young women participating in the Courageous Girls program, relying on maternal proxy reports using General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE) and the Brief Emotional Intelligence Scale (BEIS-10). …

Perceptions Of Leader Emotional Intelligence During Change: A Qualitative Study Of Middle Managers In Higher Education, Kirk Bennett Dec 2025

Perceptions Of Leader Emotional Intelligence During Change: A Qualitative Study Of Middle Managers In Higher Education, Kirk Bennett

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

In a world where change is constant, organizations often struggle to adapt. Whether implementing change proactively or responding to external realities, organizational change leaders must navigate the landscape of change with awareness of the potential for follower resistance to derail their efforts. Change and emotion are not easily separated, and change leaders who ignore the emotional realities of change do so at the risk of failure. Leaders who demonstrate emotional intelligence are better equipped to understand and manage the emotions of change in themselves and others. How followers perceive the emotional intelligence of their leaders is crucial to their own …

‘Boomers’ And ‘Gen Zs’: More Alike Than You’D Think, Michelle C. Dziurgot Dec 2025

‘Boomers’ And ‘Gen Zs’: More Alike Than You’D Think, Michelle C. Dziurgot

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This month's editorial compares Baby Boomer (born 1946–1964) and Generation Z (born 1997–2012) members of the MDA, highlighting unexpected similarities. Both generations share a strong dedication to hard work, social justice, and pride in MDA membership. They also both experienced economic downturns (Boomers: 70s/early 80s recessions; Gen Z: 2008-09 Great Recession), leading them to be cautious with savings. Although communication methods differ (Boomers prefer phone calls, Gen Z prefers texting), both desire concise conversations. They also share traditional goals like marriage, family, and a strong desire for financial security and home ownership.
