Change In Illiquidity Of Family Firms With Institutional Pressure: Evidence From India, Amit Chakrabarti, Kaveri Krishnan
Change In Illiquidity Of Family Firms With Institutional Pressure: Evidence From India, Amit Chakrabarti, Kaveri Krishnan
American Business Review
This paper investigates the impact of the family business on illiquidity in an emerging market and how it evolves with regulatory changes. The study uses panel data multiple regression on a sample of 25,418 observations on 3,606 firms from India within nine years from 2006 to 2014. The study finds that family firms have significantly higher illiquidity compared to non-family firms. Moreover, family businesses have successfully resisted the institutional pressure to decrease illiquidity and have also defied these coercive pressures to increase the illiquidity of family businesses finally. The study also found heterogeneity in the behaviour of family businesses based …

The Linkages Between Commitment To Sustainability, Organizational Culture, Quality Management, And Organizational Performance, Lillian Y. Fok, Yun-Chen Morgan, Susan Zee
International Journal of Applied Management and Technology
The growing economic pressures, rising awareness of the importance of environmental protection, and stringent global regulations are leading to more integration of sustainability initiatives into corporate strategies across multiple industries. These sustainability initiatives can alter organization cultures and affect employee perceptions and organizational outcomes. In this study, 331 respondents from a wide variety of industries in the South were surveyed. Results showed that companies’ overall green/sustainability orientation is related to organizational culture, quality management maturity, and companies’ performance. The findings implied that it is imperative to develop an organizational culture that is supportive of quality and sustainability to ensure the …

The impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is unprecedented. At an organisational level, the crisis has been hugely disruptive, complex and fraught with ambiguity for leaders. The crisis is fundamentally a human one, making human resource (HR) leaders central in enabling organisations to manage through and ultimately exit the crisis successfully. We apply a paradox lens to understand the HR leadership challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis. We argue that how the HR function responds to the challenges of the crisis and its role in mapping the exit route from the crisis are likely to shape the trajectory of …

The Trilemma Of 2020: Understanding Higher Education’S Fall 2020 Reopening Decision Amidst The Covid Crisis, Rob Weitz, Viswa Viswanathan, David Rosenthal
American Business Review
In the summer of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to spread around the world, institutions of higher education were faced with three options in terms of their teaching modality for fall 2020: resume in-person education, switch to online delivery, or adopt a hybrid approach. This observational research study aims to tease out the variables that explain the decisions announced in summer 2020 by various colleges and universities in the United States for their planned instruction for fall 2020. We propose and test eight hypotheses related to the decision. The study found statistical confirmation that universities with higher financial stability …
The Influence Of United Arab Emirates National Culture On Leadership Styles In Higher Education Institutions, Hamsa Saleh Al Ammari
The Influence Of United Arab Emirates National Culture On Leadership Styles In Higher Education Institutions, Hamsa Saleh Al Ammari
Dissertations
Academic institutions and universities are complicated organizations led by professionals and academics who owe their knowledge and skills to their experience in education and leadership. In a country like the United Arab Emirates (UAE), education leaders who come from different cultural backgrounds practice their daily duties within a context where the local national culture imposes certain assumptions, beliefs, norms, and attitudes on them, thereby controlling their understanding of leadership and shaping their behavior. There has been little academic research into what constitutes the national culture of the UAE, a young, cosmopolitan amalgamation of seven Emirates, viewed internationally as an Arab, …
A Queueing Model For Customer Rescheduling And No-Shows In Service Systems, Yue Tang, Houyuan Jiang, Jingui Xie, Zhichao Zheng
A Queueing Model For Customer Rescheduling And No-Shows In Service Systems, Yue Tang, Houyuan Jiang, Jingui Xie, Zhichao Zheng
Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business
We study an M/M/1/K queue where customers can reschedule their appointments. Rescheduled customers show up with higher probabilities, incurring lower no-show costs, but rescheduling also frees up slots that may not be filled later, leading to wasted service capacity and lower throughput. The system manager aims to minimize the long-run average cost by controlling rescheduling policies. We derive conditions under which rescheduling should be allowed for different scenarios depending on whether customers can reschedule only once or multiple times.
Contemporary Organizational Reality Through The Eyes Of Chaos Theory: A Literature Review, Inas Rafik Zein Eddine
Contemporary Organizational Reality Through The Eyes Of Chaos Theory: A Literature Review, Inas Rafik Zein Eddine
BAU Journal - Health and Wellbeing
Since the beginning of scientific management, organizations have been managed by linear structures and rigid scientific understandings, where and for decades scientific models have been dominating the way organizations are built and the way organizational reality is foreseen. Primarily, these traditional managerial perspectives have been challenged by the Chaos theory, which came to detect the linearity ruling each and every aspect of organizations' course of work. Indeed, this theory was not sufficiently conceptualized in organizations’ philosophies and practices; however, within the rapid pace of the continuous changes and instabilities around, the attention to it has been on the rise. Amid …
Dynamic Interplay Of Environmental Sustainability And Corporate Reputation: A Combined Parametric And Nonparametric Approach, He-Boong Kwon, Jooh Lee, Laee Choi
Dynamic Interplay Of Environmental Sustainability And Corporate Reputation: A Combined Parametric And Nonparametric Approach, He-Boong Kwon, Jooh Lee, Laee Choi
Rohrer College of Business Departmental Research
For decades, research on the relationship between environmental sustainability and firm performance focused on determining whether the effect of the former on the latter was positive or negative. That potentially controversial approach had driven mainstream research to ask two focal questions: Does it pay to be green? and Does it cost to be green? Recent papers have explored a curvilinear effect (i.e., U-shaped and inverted U-shaped) by tackling another question: When does it pay to be green? These efforts, however, have either oversimplified the complex linkage between these two things into a linear relationship or confined the complexity within a …

Driving Health Care Results With Authenticity, Kindness, And Vulnerability: A New Model Of Authentic Leadership, John D. Couris
Driving Health Care Results With Authenticity, Kindness, And Vulnerability: A New Model Of Authentic Leadership, John D. Couris
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Current management scholars have defined authentic leadership as consisting of four dimensions: relational transparency, self-awareness, balanced processing, and internalized moral perspective. This research extends the concept of authentic leadership to include kindness and vulnerability. I created two scales to measure kindness and vulnerability within the context of leadership and used them to examine perceptions of authentic leadership and its impact on three organizational outcomes: trust in one’s leader, work engagement, and psychological safety. Using a two-group, pretest-posttest experimental design, 44 Tampa General Hospital managers were either selected to participate in a four-hour authentic leadership training that included instruction on kindness …
Informing Complexity: The Business Case For Managing Digital Twins Of Complex Process Facilities As A Valuable Asset, William Randell Mcnair
Informing Complexity: The Business Case For Managing Digital Twins Of Complex Process Facilities As A Valuable Asset, William Randell Mcnair
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The Digital Twins of complex facilities, specifically 3D models created during their design, is a potentially valuable information asset. This three- article dissertation explores the business case for firms in the petrochemical process industry to manage throughout the facility lifecycle. A maturity model is provided to illustrate the stages of digital twin evolution and serves as a tool to help communicate each of the five levels of digital twin maturity achievable in various use cases. An industry analysis reviews existing literature and proposes a model to assess informing or insight value of digital twins from three perspectives. Next, an empirical …
Residential Curbside Recycle Context Analysis, Ntchanang Mpafe
Residential Curbside Recycle Context Analysis, Ntchanang Mpafe
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Curbside recycling as a preferred mode of residential and municipal sustainability goals seems to have an overwhelming acceptance and adoption in the US. About 69.8 million out of 97.3 million (72%) single-family households in the United States have access to curbside recycling services (State of Curbside Recycling Report, 2020). Collectively, the programs divert about nine million tons of recyclables from landfill disposal each year (Cottom, 2019).
For a design that started in the 1980s in the US, its rapid universal adoption seems to have precluded a concerted effort in examining the coproduced nature (Households: service receptors and Municipalities: service providers) …

Michael Jordan is considered by many to be not only the greatest basketball player, but also the greatest athlete of all time. Fans, sports analysts, and former and current players profess feelings of awe when recollecting his elite performance on the basketball court and when discussing his mystique off the court. Air Jordan, the brand bearing Jordan’s name, image, and likeness, is one of Nike’s most successful business units, and yet has received very little attention in the existing literature. Recently, the athletic departments of four large Division I universities have attempted to leverage the connection between Air Jordan and …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This study examined records management practices in public universities of Nigeria. Qualitative research using a single case study approach with a semi-structured interview technique was used to extract data from 14 stakeholders in records and information management regarding the research topic. Software for qualitative research analysis ATLAS-ti 7.0 was used to aid the data analysis. The result of the study among others shows that RIM is predominantly conducted manually in the university with a lot of challenges. Various circumstances have contributed to these challenges; the most prominent among these is the lack of standard RIM policy to guide and control …

In the field of management science and business administration, the case method is gaining ground in research as well as in teaching. Case studies support on the one hand exploratory re-search and on the other hand problem-based teaching. However, we find that case research and case teaching remain unchained in management study programs and propose to close this gap. We identify an untapped potential of boosting the case method by integrating case-based re-search and teaching into a discovery and learning journey of applied science. We suggest em-bedding the ‘Integrated Case Method’ (ICM) in the ecosystem of universities to the end …

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has driven many health care institutions in the United States beyond their capacity. Physicians-in-training in graduate medical education programs have suffered the strain of providing patient care during this unprecedented time of crisis. The significant prevalence of pre-existing resident and fellow burnout and depression makes the need for action by institutions to support the well-being of residents and fellows even more urgent. We aim to describe innovative adaptations our Office of Graduate Medical Education implemented with the support of institutional leadership as responses to promote the well-being of residents and fellows on the frontlines during the …

Tdabc Capabilities For Performance Measurement: A Case Study In A Manufacturing Context, Siham Rahoui, Abubakar Ali, John Crowe, Amr Mahfouz
Conference papers
Supply chain costing presents a sophisticated alternative to traditional costing allowing an accurate cost estimation and effective decision making. In exploring different techniques, TDABC was not explored extensively compared to its peers. In addition to the infancy of the technique, there is an on-going debate about the capability of the TDABC specifically in manufacturing context. The present study contributes to the debate by applying TDABC at the logistics function of a manufacturing site and assesses it capability to measure performance in the stated context.
