Modeling The Effect Of Population Size On Banking Transaction Channels In Nigeria: Grey Box Vs Support Vector Regression, Desmond Bartholomew, Ngozi P. Olewuezi, Chrysogonus C. Nwaigwe, Felix C. Akanno
CBN Journal of Applied Statistics (JAS)
This study investigates the effect of Nigeria’s population on four selected banking transaction channels. The Nigerian projected population (2022-2027) was used as an input variable for forecasting future volumes of transactions for each channel. The results show that the Support Vector Regression (SVR) model best fits the ATM, Online, and USSD channels of transaction while the Grey-box was better for POS. The forecast results show that ATM, online, and USSD channels had their highest volume of transactions in 2023, while for POS, the highest volume was recorded in 2027. Further results indicate that online and POS transactions would dominate payment …
Mandatory Esg Disclosure And Executive Compensation: Evidence From The Europe Union Non-Financial Reporting Directive, Dana Lacondre Nugent
Mandatory Esg Disclosure And Executive Compensation: Evidence From The Europe Union Non-Financial Reporting Directive, Dana Lacondre Nugent
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
The European Parliament passed the Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD) with the intent to “encourage firms to identify and manage ESG risk” and “provide more transparent and relevant information …intended to empower stakeholders” (EU Directive 2014/95/EU). In my dissertation, I examine whether this change in the information environment is associated with a change in discretionary compensation as a result of decision-useful information conveyed in the mandated Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosures. While I expected that new ESG information (Resist) would experience cross-setting changes, my results show that the impact of the mandate is more nuanced. I find herein that …

Economic Policy Uncertainty And The Uncovered Interest Rate Parity Of Exchange Rate Determination, Yanyan Freitag
Economic Policy Uncertainty And The Uncovered Interest Rate Parity Of Exchange Rate Determination, Yanyan Freitag
Doctoral Dissertations (DBA)
I argue that the Uncovered Interest Rate Parity (UIRP) relationship depends on the Economic Policy Uncertainty zones (EPU). The UIRP-EPU relationship is state-dependent, non-linear, and asymmetric. Using the monthly data for the sample period January 1999 to December 2023, I test the relationship between changes in the U.S. Dollar in the Euro exchange rate and the spread between the yields on the 10-year U.S. Treasury Note vs. the euro area 10-year convergence bond. The relationship is tested at three different zones or ‘levels’ of the EPU for the U.S. The low, intermediate, and high EPU zones are determined by employing …

Research Collection School Of Accountancy
This study investigates the effect of a firm’s indoor environment quality (IEQ) on its information production. Leveraging a third-party sustainability building rating system that provides IEQ scores for office buildings, we first show that employees in a firm’s headquarters with better IEQ scores are more likely to leave positive building-related feedback on Glassdoor, indicating employees’ recognition and appreciation of a workplace with superior IEQ. Next, we find robust evidence that firms headquartered in buildings with better IEQ issue more frequent and more accurate management forecasts. Furthermore, we show that a firm’s commitment to better IEQ (1) enhances occupational wellbeing of …

Social Capital And Cost Of Debt: Evidence From Chinese Ceo Network Centrality, Yiping Chen, Yuan G. Shan, Jimin Wang, Xinxin Yang, Junru Zhang
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Using a unique dataset comprising 6313 firm-year observations for Chinese listed firms between 2008 and 2017, we investigate the impact of CEO social capital on cost of debt. Our results show that CEO social capital is negatively related to cost of debt, and the impact of CEO social capital in environments with a low degree of marketization or social trust is more pronounced than in environments with a high degree of marketization or social trust. Moreover, our results reveal that two potential mechanisms, discretionary accruals and information disclosure quality, mediate the impact of CEO social capital on cost of debt.

Epidemiological models—which help us understand and forecast the spread of infectious disease—can be valuable tools for public health. However, barriers exist that can make it difficult to employ epidemiological models routinely within the repertoire of public health planning. These barriers include technical challenges associated with constructing the models, challenges in obtaining appropriate data for model parameterization, and problems with clear communication of modeling outputs and uncertainty. To learn about the unique barriers and opportunities within the state of Arizona, we gathered a diverse set of 48 public health stakeholders for a day-and-a-half forum. Our research group was motivated specifically by …

Green HRM (GHRM) delineates organizations’ efforts to address environmental concerns. However, the current research has not thoroughly investigated the antecedents of GHRM. Moreover, the internal structure of GHRM remains unclear, further limiting our understanding of firms’ different approaches to GHRM adoption. Using a sample of Spanish firms, our first study revealed GHRM to be a two-dimensional construct, with one bundle of practices emphasizing employer branding and another bundle emphasizing employee green performance. In our second study, we draw upon path dependence theory to examine the relationship between the use of high-performance work systems (HPWS) and GHRM adoption using a sample …

Conference Proceedings
From the time that Clayton Christensen (1997) highlighted the concept of disruption due to innovation, and its impact on businesses and economies, practitioners and researchers have diverted their attention to the evil it casts and the opportunities it presents. Innovations and improvements in technologies have more often than not resulted in disruption of business models prevalent at that time. The three industrial revolutions have marked definitive shifts in performance and perspectives, and now the world awaits the outcome of the industrial revolution 4.0. Disruptions do not come only from revolutions. This is evident from the very recent incidence of the …

Demands At Work: The Moderating Influence Of Motivation On The Relationship Between Challenge Demands And Employee Work Engagement, Lauren R. Dinnat
Doctoral Dissertations
Work engagement is a popular topic due to the positive outcomes linked to it. For example, engaged workers are shown to be more productive workers and better organizational citizens. The Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) Theory has been the most widely accepted explanatory model for work engagement due to its flexibility to be applied to all work environments. While the JD-R does not argue that motivation is fixed, it does not account for moment-to-moment changes in motivation. A state theory of motivation that examines how motivation may impact the relationships between demands and work engagement has yet to be examined. This study …
