This paper describes the structure of an interactive dental practice management game, with special emphasis on its design and computer implementation. The game covers a wide spectrum of management decisions in setting up and in running a dental practice. The decisions considered include practice location, the form of practice, staffing mix and salaries, and the purchasing or leasing of equipment. The game also covers major daily, monthly, and yearly decisions, including forecasting patient load, economic analysis, and scheduling of patients, workers, and operatories. The paper presents a methodology designed for the selection of industrial plants for rural communities. The problem is formulated within the framework of systems analysis with the numerous systems elements and the links between them properly identified and pointed out. The paper discusses the overall methodology as a whole, however, special emphasis is laid upon the evaluation of the socio-economic preferences with respect to industrial plants. The Israeli kibbutz communal settlements provided the empirical background for the study and field testing of the methodology. A Two-Stage Approach For Geographic Effects In Cama Systems, Teunis J. Ott

A methodology is developed for the second stage of a Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal System, which corrects the estimated assessed values of properties for their location. Recent sales close to the parcel in question are given heavier weight than other sales. The methodology is based on constructing a response surface, where the optimal response surface minimizes a weighted average of the sum of squared residuals and a quantity that represents the smoothness of the response surface. An algorithm, for which convergence has been proven, is provided for finding the optimal response surface.

The tour was sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, with the objective of information. exchange. This chapter examines the impact of Expanded Function Dental Auxiliaries (EFDA) on dental practice management, focusing on productivity and profitability. Various practice configurations with EFDA integration are compared to conventional setups, demonstrating that EFDA inclusion significantly reduces a dentist's workload, increases practice capacity, and enhances revenue and earnings. Tools and methodologies from Operations Research, such as patient load forecasting, scheduling, and economic analysis, are applied to assess these effects. The theory of infinitely divisible semi-Markov matrices is a generalization of both the theory of infinitely divisible probability distributions on the real line, and the theory of infinitely divisible Markov matrices. One of the results in this paper is that the imbeddability in a continuous semigroup of transition kernels extends from infinitely divisible distribution functions and infinitely divisible Markov matrices to infinitely divisible semi-Markov matrices.

The design and development phase of a computerized faculty research profile information system (RPIS) at Case Western Reserve University is documented in detail. The events leading up to the decision to develop such a system are summarized as well. Presented as documentation are a systems analysis, identification of data elements, user's manual, implementation proposal and budget, a copy of the faculty questionnaire to be used and supporting exhibits. The role of each organization involved in implementing RPIS and the means to be utilized for evaluating the system's performance are discussed.

Between 1972 and 1975 mortality rate in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Forest City Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, showed a noticeable decline. Interpersonal communication, or the sending and receiving of messages between two individuals, can be characterized by various degrees of certainty, consistency, and patterning. One's prior experiences can often affect current perceptions and attitudes. Furthermore, the various aspects of the personalities of the communicants can significantly influence whether the outcome of the communication sequence will be successful and mutually understood, or will be unsuccessful and misunderstood. This thesis analyzes the impact of progressive deterioration of lamp-making equipment on finished lamp cost and quantity. This analysis is accomplished by describing the total process as a sequence of Markov processes, for each of which the transitional probabilities have been defined. The expected behavior of this multi-stage process over the time period of interest is calculated by a Fortran computer program. Results of the analysis may be used by a shop foreman as a guide in determining when to shut down for repair or maintenance of equipment.

This study introduces an index for quantifying the health status and changes in patients within an adult intensive care unit (ICU), driven by the need to evaluate the impact of telemedicine on healthcare delivery. The ICU Patient Assessment Profile consists of twelve observable parameters encompassing neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, and renal functions. Each parameter receives a score, and weights derived through stepwise multiple regression and nonlinear optimization create a severity of illness index, SEVILL, applicable to both neurologic and non-neurologic patients. This thesis presents a description of non-standard work scheduling techniques and a comparison method which enables decision-makers to differentiate between available work-scheduling alternatives with the purpose in mind of selecting the most appropriate and suitable arrangement. The method developed calls for the decision-maker to follow a five-step sequential process to obtain final results. The ingredients necessary to achieve such final results are obtained in a manner similar to that demanded by decision-making-under-uncertainty conditions commonly followed in actual industrial settings.
