La presencia del cientificismo positivista de fines del siglo XIX es legible en novelas de Roque Larraquy (en particular, La comemadre, 2010) y Iosi Havilio (Opendoor, 2006 y Paraísos, 2011) ambientadas en parte o en su totalidad en el siglo XXI. Argumento que Larraquy encuentra en instituciones y archivos finiseculares un tono narrativo y un tipo de personaje y Havilio una motivación para una protagonista en general exenta de pasiones. In Volume II, there are 4 issues or journals, three of Latin American literature and one of Advanced Composition (years 2020-2021). This volume has been named “Post” because of its postmodern approach within Hispanic Cultural Studies.

These issues are also of great importance because they respond to the literary, professional, and linguistic work in Spanish produced during the peak of the pandemic, when teaching had to become a synchronous experience through virtual space.

The collapse of the real estate bubble in 2008 brought an economic crisis that began to spread throughout the world, and Spain was one of the countries most negatively impacted. During the Great Recession, the governments of PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Español) and PP (Partido Popular) didn’t present viable solutions to end the crisis. Instead, they enforced drastic economic cutbacks. Meanwhile, the governments subsidized the banks to rescue them; in theory, to save the Spanish economy. Over time, mobile devices have penetrated the classroom, requiring new and beneficial ways to implement classroom instruction. Research suggests that Short Message Service (SMS) based instruction is an effective tool for acquiring second language (L2) vocabulary and idiom knowledge (Hayati, Jalilifar, & Mashhadi; Lu,). Additionally, studies have found that students believe that mobile learning (m-learning) is beneficial to acquiring a second language (Cavus & Ibrahim; Hayati, Jalilifar, & Mashhadi; Lu, 2008). This study examined whether m-learning can lead to Spanish vocabulary familiarity and if sentence comprehension outperforms reading definitions.
