“Ilustrando” A Rosario De Velasco: Desarrollo De Una Estética, Beatriz Caamaño Alegre
“Ilustrando” A Rosario De Velasco: Desarrollo De Una Estética, Beatriz Caamaño Alegre
Hipertexto

The existence of an extensive body of literature on the Present Perfect (PP), both Spanish-specific (cf. Alarcos Llorach 1947, Copple 2011, Escobar 1997, Gili Gaya 1972, Howe 2013, Rodríguez Louro 2009, Schwenter 1994, Schwenter & Torres Cacoullos 2008, inter alia) and cross-linguistic studies (cf. Bybee, Perkins, & Pagliuca, 1994, Comrie 1976 Harris, 1982, Squartini & Bertinetto 2000, inter alia), attests to the complexity of accurately describing the uses, meanings and functions of the PP. Among the studies of the PP in Spanish, two main approaches are employed. In one approach, the grammaticalization, analysis of temporal and aspectual uses of the …

Con La Pluma Entre Dos Mundos - Vintage Edition - Prologue, Volume 1, Number 2, Damaris Serrano, Fátima Araúz, Megan Mckarns, Michael Daniel Curtis Stanley, María Astudillo
Con la pluma entre dos mundos
It has been said that writing is knowledge. This second season of the student magazine Con la pluma entre dos mundos [With the Pen Between Two Worlds] is a testament to that.
This project was born in 2005, when I arrived at Wright State. It was the result of my wanting to share the amazement and admiration I felt on reading the written works of my students in very different subjects: from Composition I, II and III to seminars on special topics in Spanish, which included culture and literature. From the elementary language to Conversation courses, in which participants had …

The Paradox Of Amnesia: Tondelli's Un Weekend Postmoderno, Stefano Giannini
The Paradox Of Amnesia: Tondelli's Un Weekend Postmoderno, Stefano Giannini
Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics - All Scholarship
Tondelli opens his Un weekend postmoderno. Cronache dagli anni Ottanta declaring an intention opposite to the display of amnesia. In the long table of contents of his book, he writes down everything, in an excruciating streaming of details, so that the table of content becomes an exhaustive index of names and ideas. Yet, hidden within the hundreds of analytical snapshots, one of its many characters mentions the importance of dissimulation. Dissimulation, according to Tondelli, hides what is known, to protect the dissimulator and to mask the truth. Also, amnesia is a voluntary practice that can be enacted in order to …

Enfermedad Y Sátira Contra Los Médicos En Las Poesías Varias De José Navarro (1654), Almudena Vidorreta
Graduate Student Publications and Research
Graduate Student Publications and Research

Modern Languages Faculty Publications
Review Of The Baker Who Pretended To Be King Of Portugal By Ruth Mackay, Christine Garst-Santos
Review Of The Baker Who Pretended To Be King Of Portugal By Ruth Mackay, Christine Garst-Santos
School of American and Global Studies Faculty Publications with a Focus on Modern Languages and Global Studies
In this captivating study of the interdependent realms of fact and fiction, Ruth MacKay explores an episode in early modern Iberian history that could easily be found alongside any of the intercalated tales in Cervantes’s Don Quixote: that of an itinerant pastalero, or baker, who pretended to be the long lost King Sebastian of Portugal. Sorting through the letters, chronicles, and inquisitorial documents of troubled monarchs, conspiring nobles, and restless religious, MacKay weaves together an impressive array of Spanish and Portuguese archival sources to re-create the conspiracy that surfaced in the Castilian town of Madrigal de las Altas Torres in …

Desafíos Teatrales Al Mal Metafísico: El Hombre Deshabitado De Rafael Alberti Y La Muerte De César Vallejo., Ilka Kressner
Languages, Literatures and Cultures Faculty Scholarship
Observaciones Sobre El Estado Del Sonido Fricativo Palatal Sordo En El Español Salvadoreño., Alexander Quintanilla
Observaciones Sobre El Estado Del Sonido Fricativo Palatal Sordo En El Español Salvadoreño., Alexander Quintanilla
Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS
In this work I discuss the current situation in the Spanish of El Salvador of the voiceless fricative palatal sound. The presence of this sound in Pipil, an orginal language already spoken in El Salvador before the Spaniards arrived, favored its maintenance in Salvadoran Spanish. Since Pipil is a language in extinction, some authors believe that this sound is also disappearing in Salvadoran Spanish. However, Pipil is not the only language with this sound that influences Salvadoran Spanish. Thus, we examine the linguistic distribution of this sound in El Salvador, the possible reasons of its maintenance and its implications for …

Learning Context Matters: Communication Strategy Development Through Spanish Interaction, Sonya Hildebrand
Lewis Honors College Capstone Collection
University studies in the Spanish language are often times confined to the classroom. However, more and more programs have been implementing civic engagement in the Hispanic community into the curriculum to create a service-learning experience. This study sought to determine the effectiveness of service-learning in enhancing communication techniques. Twenty undergraduate students at the University of Kentucky were surveyed at the onset and the conclusion of one semester while simultaneously serving the Hispanic community. The students, on average, increased the frequency of communication techniques after a semester of service-learning. Students who participate in a service-learning program often times see a result …

Aplicación Pedagógica De La Lingüística De Corpus A Una Clase De Gramática Avanzada De Español Como Segunda Lengua, Yanira B. Paz
Hispanic Studies Faculty Publications

Globalizing The Care Chain: Representations Of Latinas In Maid In America, Irune Del Rio Gabiola
Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS
The article examines the portrayal of Latina women as housemaids in the U.S. as depicted in the documentary film "Maid in America" directed by Anayansi Prado. It discusses the social injustice and sacrifices undergone by the Latinas in order to survive in the host country. It also analyzes the image of the Latina as an ideal mother of both her native and host country.

Modern Languages & Literatures Articles
