Religion And Politics In Nigeria From 1841-1845: An Essay On Church-State Relationship, Agbonkhianmeghe E. Orobator
Theology Faculty Research and Publications

Quaestio Disputata: Delayed Hominization--A Rejoinder To Thomas Shannon, Mark Johnson

Thomas Shannon's response to my article ranges over our disagreements, but the core disagreement, the one with the heaviest moral fallout, concerns the unity or individuality of the preimplantation embryo. One's position here largely dictates whether its manipulation or destruction is morally licit. That core disagreement is the focus of this rejoinder.

Effects Of Variant Narrators In Acts 10-11, William Kurz
Effects Of Variant Narrators In Acts 10-11, William Kurz
Theology Faculty Research and Publications
One of the cruces interpretum regarding the Acts of the Apostles that continue to reappear in scholarly discussions is why some stories are repeated three or more times. Redaction criticism moved the solutions beyond the earlier theories of multiple sources toward a consensus of attributing repetition to Lukan redaction. One contribution from redactional approaches was the awareness of how emphasis is achieved by repeating accounts of events that are especially pivotal to the overall plot of Acts.
The Open-Ended Nature Of Luke And Acts As Inviting Canonical Actualisation, William Kurz
The Open-Ended Nature Of Luke And Acts As Inviting Canonical Actualisation, William Kurz
Theology Faculty Research and Publications
Starting from generally accepted narrative insights, this article attempts to justify a canonical reading of Luke and Acts that actualises the Lukan text for contemporary theology and Christian life. It argues that one set of foundations for later actualisation was laid by the original author: that is, the text itself of Luke and Acts has built into it several invitations for its actualisation in later Christians' lives. Among these built-in occasions for canonical actualisation, this article focuses especially on the 'open-endedness' of Luke and Acts toward the future . It examines three specific openings toward actualisation and application: (1) an …

The Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral: Development In An Anglican Approach To Christian Unity, Robert B. Slocum
The Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral: Development In An Anglican Approach To Christian Unity, Robert B. Slocum
Theology Faculty Research and Publications
The Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral has served as the primary reference point and working document of the Anglican Communion for ecumenical Christian reunion. It identifies four essential elements for Christian unity in terms of scriptures, creeds, sacraments, and the Historic Episcopate. The Quadrilateral is based on the ecumenical thought and leadership of William Reed Huntington, an Episcopal priest who proposed the Quadrilateral in his book The Church.Idea:/In Essay toward Unity (1870) and who was the moving force behind approval of the Quadrilateral by the House of Bishops of the 1886 General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church. It was subsequently approved with …
