From Participants To Co-Researchers: Methodological Alterations To A Qualitative Case Study, Elizabeth M. Pope

The Qualitative Report

Researchers request a variety of levels of engagement from their participants in a research study. This can range from merely serving as a data generation opportunity to being actively involved in each stage of the project. The latter is a co-researcher. In this paper, I explore how nine participants in a qualitative case study became co-researchers by the study’s conclusion. The increase in their active participation required methodological alterations to the project while I conducted the study. This essay reflects on the creation of a vocational curriculum produced by the author's doctoral project. The goal is to explore the value in vocational reflection among teenagers in youth groups, and to offer an example of how youth ministries may implement extended and holistic teaching programs regarding the theology of vocation.

This essay begins with an assessment of the ministry context. Second, It reviews templates for vocational curricula used on some college campuses and how the author implemented those strategies into the project. While analytic philosophy has led the charge in answering the problem of evil (i.e., POE), postmodern theology and movements like radical orthodoxy incite a response to POE from a postmodern perspective. With skepticism toward purely metaphysical answers to evil, this essay relies on the writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and James K.A. Smith in order to offer a social, ecclesial, and non-rational response to the POE; furthermore, continental philosophy, postmodern theology, and social theory play a significant role in this paper. State Regulation Of Religion: The Effect Of Religious Freedom On Muslims' Religiosity, Hannah M. Ridge

Political Science Faculty Articles and Research

Substantial scholarship argues that regulation of religion suppresses religiosity in a community by reducing individuals’ satisfaction with their religious experience. To date this research has assumed that regulations are enforced on and affect religious communities uniformly. It has also focused heavily on Western Christian populations and aggregated national data. We suggest that state regulation of religious communities and behaviours impacts citizens differently based on their affiliation. Using individual-level assessments of freedom and religiosity from Muslim-majority countries, we show that, at the individual level, restricting freedom suppresses religious belief and behaviour. Restrictions on religious minorities, however, can increase religiosity. As such, …

عالج الباحث الموضوع في مبحثين: قدّم في الأول تعريف المعلومة الأمنية لغة واصطلاحا، وأشار إلى مجالات النشاط الاستخباري بشكل عام، ثم عرّف المعلومة الأمنية، وأصل في المبحث الثاني طرققبول المعلومة الأمنية وردها مستفيدا من مناهج المحدثين. اتبع الباحث المنهج الوصفي بغرض التعريف بالأمن والمعلومات، وتتبع منهج المحدثين في قبول ورد الرواية، كما اتبع المنهج التحليلي في مقاربة طرق المحدثين عند قبولهم أو ردهم للرواية، ومقارنة ذلك مع المعلومة الأمنية للوصول إلى النتائج المرجوة . توصل الباحث إلى وجود كثير من القواسم المشتركة بين صناعة المعلومة الأمنية ومنهج المدثين في التعاطي مع الرواية. خلص الباحث إلى ضرورة الاستفادة من مناهج المحدّثين …

As with other fields of applied ethics, philosophers engaged in business ethics struggle to carry out substantive philosophical reflection in a way that mirrors the practical reasoning that goes on within business management itself. One manifestation of the philosopher’s struggle is the field’s division into approaches that emphasize moral philosophy and those grounded in the methods of social science. I claim here that the task, at least for those with philosophical training, is to avoid unintentionally widening the gap between philosophical theory and those engaged in business management by emphasizing the centrality of practical wisdom (phronesis) to the moral life. …
