The Epistemic Parity Of Religious Apologetic And Religion Debunking Responses To The Cognitive Science Of Religion, Walter Scott Stepanenko
The Epistemic Parity Of Religious Apologetic And Religion Debunking Responses To The Cognitive Science Of Religion, Walter Scott Stepanenko
2021 Faculty Bibliography
Recent work in the cognitive science of religion has challenged some of the explanatory assumptions of previous research in the field. Nonetheless, some of the practitioners of the new cognitive science of religion theorize in the same skeptical spirit as their predecessors and either imply or explicitly claim that their projects undermine the warrant of religious beliefs. In this article, I argue that these theories do no additional argumentative work when compared to previous attempts to debunk religious belief and that these recent debunking efforts are very much motivated by methodological commitments that are shared with canonical research. I contend …

As the Philippines becomes ever more urbanized, we run the risk of unintended harmful consequences on quality of life in terms of things like poverty and congestion. This paper proposes that a healthier and more holistic approach involves looking at urban spaces and their inhabitants as an ecosystem, thus necessitating an ecological perspective. This perspective comes from a juxtaposition between Laudato Si’ and Philippine environmental law.
A Model Of Mission By And For The Marginalized: Cezms Missions To The Deaf, Thomas Hampton
A Model Of Mission By And For The Marginalized: Cezms Missions To The Deaf, Thomas Hampton
The Asbury Journal
This paper shares the untold stories of three missions to the deaf and mute in India and Sri Lanka. Prior to Indian independence, three of the first schools in the country focused in the deaf were founded by the women of the Church of England Zenana Missionary Society (CEZMS). Their locations were Palamcottah, in Tirunelveli, India, Mylapore, in Chennai, India, and Kaitadi, near Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Each of these schools has adapted over time and continues to serve deaf students today with local leadership. there is a wider interest in the factors which allowed missionary institutions to transition to local …
The Martyr’S Desire: Levinas, Girard, And Infinite Responsibility, Joshua Alan Lawrence
The Martyr’S Desire: Levinas, Girard, And Infinite Responsibility, Joshua Alan Lawrence
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Perhaps the whole of human history could be summed up with one word: economy. The law of the home and the home of all law. Without fail, this situation results in a structured devotion that must decide what to do with desire. And the economic decision often follows a violent trajectory, most commonly described as sacrifice. Today, states will make efforts to conceal this underlying logic, but the insidious configurations of ‘real politik’ usually surface with a frightening intensity.
My project considers these problematic vestiges through Emmanuel Levinas’s reconfiguration of subjectivity. To address these bio-historical realities, my work highlights the …
The First Days And The Last Days, Jeffrey M. Bradshaw
The First Days And The Last Days, Jeffrey M. Bradshaw
Interpreter Foundation Books
Like a perfectly formed pair of bookends, the Book of Moses and Joseph Smith’s inspired translation of Matthew 24 (JS—Matthew) bracket within their pages the essential survival guide for our times. In the “first days,” Adam and Eve looked forward to Christ’s coming; in the “last days,” we look backward to Christ’s mortal life and forward to His return in glory. In the beginning, Enoch learned the ordinances and covenants that would allow his people to dwell in the presence of God; to the end, we will treasure the same ordinances and covenants. Through faith in Jesus Christ and faithfulness …

Hugh Nibley Observed, Jeffren M. Bradshaw, Shirly S. Ricks, Stephen T. Whitlock
Interpreter Foundation Books
Our purpose in creating this volume is twofold. For readers who are already familiar with the life and work of Hugh Nibley, we hope this book will provide a more full account of the story behind the writings—their biographical, historical, literary, and scholarly contexts. For the many more who have never read anything by him, we hope that the fascinating, mostly secondhand accounts in this book will provide encouragement for them to read Nibley’s own works. To read these works is to understand the man — and to better understand the gospel of Jesus Christ and the cause of his …

Faith-Driven Impact Investing: Renewing A Belief That An Investment In Entrepreneurialism And Commerce Is Central To God's Plan Of Redemption And Human Flourishing, Jonathan Mark Halverson
Faith-Driven Impact Investing: Renewing A Belief That An Investment In Entrepreneurialism And Commerce Is Central To God's Plan Of Redemption And Human Flourishing, Jonathan Mark Halverson
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This project addressed the need for a renewed belief among faith-driven investors that investments in redemptive businesses is central to God’s plan of redemption and biblical human flourishing. The explosive growth of values-aligned investing, such as Socially Responsible Investing and impact investing, has opened the door to introducing values into investment decision-making. There are significant opportunities for Christ followers to align their biblical values with their investment strategies, and to “put to work” (Matt. 25:16) resources apportioned to them by God; however, they have been slow to embrace the opportunities. Research was conducted to understand the underlying biblical-theological beliefs of …
Recovering A Biblical Form Of Spiritual Formation In Contemporary Pentecostal Churches, Ernest Ronald Krantz
Recovering A Biblical Form Of Spiritual Formation In Contemporary Pentecostal Churches, Ernest Ronald Krantz
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The project addressed the problem of an inadequate theology of spiritual formation within the discipleship doctrine of a specific expression of North American Pentecostalism. The problem manifests most acutely at the local church level where ministry leaders are struggling with divorce, mental illness, moral relativism, and poverty. Pentecostalism is failing to measure up to its potential where the human experience intersects with religious life. This project took a multilateral approach to the problem. The first approach used a theological method to survey the biblical description of spiritual formation and the existential need for it with special emphasis on The Book of …

The Impact Of Religious Ritual Initiation On Males, David Mcmillan
The Impact Of Religious Ritual Initiation On Males, David Mcmillan
Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)
The following paper is focused on revealing the influence that religious ritual initiations/rites of passages have on males from the religions of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. In the first section of the paper, I explain why it is important that the influence that religious ritual initiations have on males be studied. The second section covers the literature that was used to obtain my research results. The third section explains how the methodologies of content analysis and semiotics were incorporated into my research. In the fourth section, I reveal that practices such as self-control and discipline are common traits in how …
