Thompson, and John of the Apocalypse—to reflect on the future of our technological society. It contrasts rejections of the city, found in Ellul’s style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">The Meaning of the City style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: medium;">(1970) and Thompson’s style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: medium;">(1972), with an affirmation of the technological city found in the Apocalypse of John.

Sunset International Bible Institute (formerly known as Sunset School of Preaching) began operation in 1962 and has continuously operated as a non-conventional ecclesial training school for ministers and missionaries of the Churches of Christ. The school’s establishment introduced a new methodology for minister training different from the traditional university model: it was an unaccredited institution, governed by the leaders of a local congregation, providing free tuition, with a pedagogical philosophy centered on comprehensive Bible curriculum excluding liberal arts or academic theological instruction. Following Sunset’s example, dozens of Churches of Christ throughout the United States established similar institutions, training thousands of …

This dissertation explores the creation, and development of the cultural landscape of Catholics in Weiner, Arkansas, as a means to interpret and preserve the heritage of the people of the region’s religious and Germanic heritage and how that has shaped this part of the state. The dissertation focuses on the development of a plan for the historical preservation and interpretation of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church along with three buildings, to serve as the centerpiece for these heritage preservation activities. This potential historic district includes four physical elements: the church building built in 1935, the parochial school for religious education which …

Recent studies have suggested the transformative potential of “theological” inquiry anddiscourse in religious studies, particularly, in furthering religious literacy and peace building initiatives through greater understanding of “other”. Yet, “theology” is a relatively new academic approach to peace building and conflict studies and is still marginalized to a large degree in secular universities. Vigorous inquiry into the intrinsic value and potential role of “theological” inquiry and discourse in secular academics, as well as possible pedagogical strategies, are worthwhile and necessary towards achieving the wider aims of the secular university.
