Dedicated: “Me. I Am Lambily… And The Elusive Chanteuse” (Podcast; Episode 1), Vincent A. Barbato
Capstones
In this podcast, “DEDICATED,” music writer Vincent Anthony speaks with the most devoted fans of the most divine divas. This inaugural episode, “Me. I Am Lambily… and the Elusive Chanteuse,” is about Mariah Carey, her Lambs, and how they react to a flop album.
Carey's album “Me. I Am Mariah … The Elusive Chanteuse,” turned in May 2024. A decade later, the Lambs, like "Why Mariah Carey Matters" author Andrew Chan, still listen to it. So, what do fans appreciate about these lesser-known albums that the masses couldn’t connect with?
Chan and three other Lambs, whom Vincent met at a …
Interleaving Practice: A Better Approach To Band Rehearsal Structure, Matthew Reimer
Interleaving Practice: A Better Approach To Band Rehearsal Structure, Matthew Reimer
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this thesis is to identify the merits of a band rehearsal structure that incorporates elements of an interleaving schedule, whereby multiple items of a similar nature are rehearsed in a mixed fashion rather than in a blocked format where one task is completed before moving on to the next. The project looks at the current state of research related to interleaving in the study of the arts, potential obstacles, motivational strategies to increase student receptiveness, and specific examples of how to implement the research in an intermediate band rehearsal. Included are resources and strategies for pitch and …
Has K-Pop Lost Its Koreaness?, Madison J. Gusler
Has K-Pop Lost Its Koreaness?, Madison J. Gusler
Capstones
Since the 2010s, the global expansion of K-pop has been undeniable, with music from Korean idol groups resonating with fans around the world. We’ve seen the industry adapt to cater to this global audience, placing emphasis on non-verbal aspects of performance such as choreography and set design, and integrating more English lyrics in their songs. K-pop has always had multinational, multicultural influences in its production, yet the music has remained distinctly Korean. But as the industry expands into new markets, faces new challenges, and adapts to convey greater global appeal, the public must contend with the idea of a K-pop …

The Uniform Triadic Transformation And Claude Debussy’S Music, Davielle Smith
The Uniform Triadic Transformation And Claude Debussy’S Music, Davielle Smith
Honors Theses
Beginning with Claude Debussy’s Berceuse Héroïque, I analyzed each triad using chord symbols along with their Roman numeral representation (where applicable).1 Next, I used integer notation and modular arithmetic, where each pitch name is given a number such that C is 0 and B is 11, creating a set, the integers (mod 12).
This leads to the development of pitch-class sets where the “mode” of a triad or arbitrary number of pitches is expressed in terms of interval spacings. In many cases, such as that of 12-tone or other serialized music, pitch class sets explain many of the composer’s artistic …

A Study On Private Piano Curriculum Using Edwin Gordon’S Music Learning Theory, Cody Chandler
A Study On Private Piano Curriculum Using Edwin Gordon’S Music Learning Theory, Cody Chandler
Masters Theses
This quantitative descriptive research study addresses the deficiencies in modern piano educational literature pertaining to aural development at the earliest stages of piano education. Contemporary piano methodologies often prioritize music notation over aural skill development during the initial stages of instruction. This study addresses this imbalance, offering insights into curriculum selection based on its influence on competition performance scores, music theory exam results, and student retention. The participants in this study are 329 piano students who began lessons between kindergarten and twelfth grade selected from five qualified piano teachers from 2010-2024. Data was collected by recording competition and festival scores, …
The Call To Worship/Music Vocational Ministry: A Case Study To Better Understand The Function Of The God-Ordained Call To Vocational Worship Ministry, Jerry Leonard Newman
The Call To Worship/Music Vocational Ministry: A Case Study To Better Understand The Function Of The God-Ordained Call To Vocational Worship Ministry, Jerry Leonard Newman
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This study investigates the multifaceted role of worship and music leaders in Christian congregations. It emphasizes that their responsibilities extend beyond mere musical proficiency to embody a profound spiritual calling rooted in a vocational call to ministry. A survey of 401 worship leaders from various Christian denominations reveals the role's dual nature: they are skilled musicians and spiritual guides uniquely called to facilitate the congregation’s faith journey. This vocational calling highlights their divine appointment to ministry, aligning with biblical principles such as those found in Ephesians 4:11-12, which stress the equipping of the saints and the building up of the …
Gatekeeping The Choral Classroom: The Existence Of Caste System Levels In High School Choral Singing, Amber J. Klein
Gatekeeping The Choral Classroom: The Existence Of Caste System Levels In High School Choral Singing, Amber J. Klein
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The high school choral music sector has become increasingly competitive in education, leading to selectively allowing certain students into the choral classroom and fostering exclusionary practices within choral music instruction. The term "gatekeeping" may evoke a sense of unease and concern, although it refers to a long-standing system that has existed for centuries. Gatekeeping, which excludes pupils who do not meet the standards set by the competitive choral world, is a growing concern in music education. The all-ability choir movement has experienced gradual growth in urban areas following years of challenges that originated from implementing the No Child Left Behind …
Harmonizing Voices: Vocal Pedagogy In 21st Century Music Education, Thomas J. Clark
Harmonizing Voices: Vocal Pedagogy In 21st Century Music Education, Thomas J. Clark
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this study is to provide recommendations for improving vocal pedagogy practices in both collegiate and secondary-level education, emphasizing fair and equitable treatment alongside the evolution of teaching practices from the 1950s to the current classroom environment. Vocal education, a cornerstone of music instruction, has been shaped by the changing educational landscape over the decades, presenting educators and students with unique challenges, including the need for inclusive and culturally sensitive practices. In response to these challenges, a central research question arises regarding the evolution of vocal pedagogy and its potential for improvement within the context of fair, equitable, …

Yes, It Was My Song: The Cultural And Personal Significance Of Frank Sinatra’S “My Way”, Maren Dattomo '28
Best First-Year Seminar Writing
Regarded as one of the greatest singers of his lifetime, Frank Sinatra embodies the voice of America and of our hearts. Among his many highly recognizable songs, from “Strangers in the Night” to “You Make Me Feel So Young”, none are as popular and as embedded in the minds of those around the world as “My Way” is. This timeless song, released in 1969, tells of a man’s pride in his life as he looks back on it retrospectively. What makes the song so special to so many people is its relatable lyrics, mighty crescendo of orchestral sounds, and Sinatra's …
