Assessing Self-Perceived Nutrition-Related Lifestyle Behaviors And Knowledge Of University Music Students Following A Targeted Presentation, Gretchen Trumbo

Although proven that nutrition can impact physical health, limited research examines the relationship between nutrition-related lifestyle behaviors, nutrition knowledge, and the prevalence of injury in university music students. The objective of this study is to evaluate nutrition-related lifestyle behaviors and self-perceived nutrition knowledge of university music students before and after a targeted nutrition education session. A baseline Qualtrics survey was administered to undergraduate and graduate music students (18+ years) via the University of Kentucky School of Music Listserv to gather data related to demographics, anthropometrics, history of playing-related injury, nutrition knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Asian music was an important influence upon some Western composers such as Claude Debussy, Giacomo Puccini, Maurice Ravel, Henry Cowell, Oliver Messiaen, John Cage and Lou Harrison. Since the 1960s, Australian composers such as Peter Sculthorpe, Anne Boyd, Richard Meale, and Julian Yu have similarly been influenced by music of Asia. In 2007, Chou Wen-chung wrote about today’s commercially oriented ‘world music’ environment, and addressed the need for Chinese composers to provide more meaningful contribution to the musical culture by writing music informed by knowledge drawn from their cultural heritage. During the late eighteenth century, the piano was the dominant musical instrument for musical composition, performance and instrument making. There were many innovations in the design, sound and touch of the piano, fuelling the emergence of a large body of idiomatic repertoire. Two distinct traditions of piano design emerged at the same time during the late eighteenth century, one in England and the other in Austria. The focal points of these traditions were, respectively, London and Vienna where resident composers in each of these locations wrote for the instruments made in these cities. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a relationship between personal value preferences (PVPs) and burnout among music therapists. A total of 450 board-certified music therapists participated in this study. Four hundred and twenty-one participants finished the survey partially and completely, and were analyzed with regard to demographic information (gender identity, years of work, worksites, weekly work hours, annual salary range). Three hundred and forty-three participants who completed the Portrait Values Questionnaire (PVQ-RR), and Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) were subjected to non-parametric and linear regression analyses.

Protest music can act as a type of social commentary, expressing a wide range of emotions, and have a uniting element, calling leaders and groups to action for tangible results. This research study sought to examine the impact of the transition to telehealth music therapy services as the primary delivery mode of treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Board-certified music therapists were invited to participate in an online questionnaire-based survey where they were asked to provide responses to questions relating to their and their clients’ demographics, their theoretical orientation, their clinical experience prior to and during COVID- 19, and their views on the overall impact of telehealth. Racial And Ethnic Representation In Music Therapy Education, Eden M. Medina

Little to no research has been done on music therapy and racial, ethnic, and musical representation. The present study investigated the perceptions racially and ethnically diverse music therapy students/new professionals have of cultural and musical representation in music therapy education, and whether opportunities, exist for ethnically/culturally diverse students to include their music when it is not directly implemented in the music therapy curricula. Thirteen participants were surveyed and results showed that there are gaps in music therapy education when it comes to racial, ethnic, and musical representation outside of Western traditions. This study explored the music therapist’s lived experience of flow during a worldwide pandemic, within an improvisational music therapy approach. There is little to no literature about the concept of flow and how it relates to the music therapist’s lived experience, and none of which includes a worldwide traumatic event. Through a phenomenological investigation, the lived experiences of two music therapists who align with the improvisational music therapy approach were studied. A thematic analysis was conducted on data sources such as qualitative interview transcriptions and audio/video recordings of the interview. This phenomenological study aimed to analyze the experiences of Nordoff-Robbins level one trainees in the United States amid significant platform shifts as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Data collection consisted of semi-structured virtual interviews that primarily focused on the experiences of trainees as students/supervisees and as providers of music-centered music therapy services. Emergent themes included (1) Shared Musical Space When Not Physically Together, (2) The Impact of Virtual Platforms on the Experience of Musical Aesthetic, (3) The Nordoff-Robbins Trainee’s Relationship with the Musical Self, and (4) Growth Resulting from Unforeseen Change. This collection consists of catalogs, correspondence, clippings, administrative papers, and published materials that were either produced by Slingerland Drum Co. or were participated in by the Slingerland Drum Company from the late 1920s through 2003. The bulk of the materials are from the period of time immediately following the Slingerland family selling the company in 1970 until it was bought by Fred Gretsch in the late 1980s.

Scottish composer James MacMillan, born in 1959, composed choral music throughout his life but initially rose to prominence as a composer of instrumental works in the early 1990s. In the first decade of the 2000s primarily with The Strathclyde Motets MacMillan solidified his position as a preeminent composer in both choral and instrumental genres with international notoriety.

MacMillan’s Roman Catholic upbringing and continuing faith have had a profound effect on his compositional style which is evident in both his instrumental and choral works. His skill in text-setting coupled with his deep faith provide a rich foundation for choral composition.
