Johannes Kapsberger (1580-1651) was an Italian composer of the early Baroque era. Known for his compositions for the lute, and chitarrone, Kapsberger was a talented composer who worked for great patrons like Francesco Barberini and Pope Urban VIII. Kapsberger published his only surviving lute works in 1611, which contained eight lute toccatas, twelve galliards and twelve courantes. Music produced for the lute during the renaissance and baroque eras are products of their time. Published lute music was written in tablature and relied heavily on the performance practices of its day. Today, trained lutenists have the skills and knowledge needed to …

The purpose of this qualitative, multiple case study was to explore the utilization of music to teach phonics in kindergarten at four elementary schools in northwest Ohio. The theory guiding this study was the schema theory as it explains how individuals are able to recognize patterns previously learned, organize those patterns, and then use those patterns to perceive new information (Green, 2010). This research sought to answer the central research question, “How do kindergarten teachers utilize music to teach phonics within the classroom?” The study included 10 cases within four different school districts. Many local church fellowships have embraced small groups (life groups, community groups) as a means of connecting people with one another from within the larger church body. These small groups are a means of building community. Furthermore, many churches testify to the importance of pursuing worship as much more than music in the corporate worship gathering that takes place once a week. The goal of this research is to determine whether or not a relationship exists between music education enrollment and graduation rate for Title I and low-income North Carolina high schools. The study took place through a review of related literature, as well as through an active study of qualifying North Carolina educators.

This thesis studies the evolution, ideology and use of the myth of La Llorona through time in the Hispanic World. Considering this myth as one of the most known traditional narratives of the American continent, I begin by providing visual, ethnohistorical and ethnographical insights of weeping in Mesoamerica and South America and the specific mention of a weeping woman in some Spanish chronicles to say how western values were stablished in “the new continent” through this legend. Multiple Grammy Award winning drummer Harold Jones is one of the greatest drummers in Jazz History. He has performed and recorded with Herbie Hancock, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, Natalie Cole and many more. This volume work is akin depth study of Harold's drumming with the Count Basie Orchestra, of which he was a member from 1968 through 1972.

An Oral History Of Marching Band Traditions At Historically Black Colleges And Universities, Claire Milburn

This study investigated the development of marching band traditions at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), as told through the rivalry between Southern University (SU) and Jackson State University (JSU). Marching bands at HBCUs developed a distinct style where pageantry is a priority. These bands have similar pre- and post- game traditions, and an overall spirit of fierce competition. This study is an oral history account taken from interviews with influential band directors from these programs. Band directors from JSU include Dowell Taylor, Paul Adams, Lewis Liddell, and Lowell Hollinger. These band directors all have established reputations as innovators and …
