El proposito del presente ensayo sobre la novela El dia sefialado, es iniciar un estudio a fondo de la obra de Manuel Mejia Vallejo (n. 1924-), considerado hoy como uno de los mejores novelistas colombianos, y, sin lugar a dudas, como el mejor cuentista nacional. A pesar de que El dia sefialado es ganadora del Premia Nadal en 1963, parece ser que aun los criticos de la novela hispanoamericana no le han prestado a Mejia Vallejo la atcncion que si le han dedicado a otros autores contemporaneos del escritor.

In this article, Helen B. Petrullo utilizes several documents in the Dorothy Thompson Papers to shed new light on the break of her husband Sinclair Lewis with publisher Harcourt, Brace. It was previously thought the break was impulsive, but the documents reveal Dorothy Thompson had a significant influence on Sinclair Lewis' decision. Also describes the relationship between author and publisher in the twentieth century.

What this paper has tried to do is to present some data which would have to be accounted for in an adequate semantic theory, and to suggest some of the specific elements of such a theory. A semantic theory must presuppose the existence of modal operators on every utterance, and would explain the meaning of any discourse as the relation among its medals. Logical theory has always done this, in taking every proposition of an argument as an element of the modal relations making up the argument. It is the purpose of this study (1) to emphasize the complementary union between literature and the visual arts; (2) to limit the exploration to those specific lyrical prose writers: Hermann Hesse and Virginia Woolf; (3) to create prints utilizing the novel as a source of image-gathering but which do not retain this identity in the finished work; (4) I to experiment with the division of the plates, as well as cutouts for the effect of creating spatial illusion or imaginary space.

The Altercatio Phyllidis et Florae is an Ovidian satire: a poem which ridicules certain mistaken notions of the meaning of the office of clerk by putting them in a context in which they become justifications for love. Such satire is possible in any age which, like Augustan Rome or twelfth-century France, defines a person according to his office and thereby can see the absurdity of making these definitions into reasons for praising a person's aptness for love. Within the last half dozen years there has been a revival in the writing and production of historical plays. The purpose of this thesis is to show how theatre-critics react to the outstanding plays of this type which, incidentally, nearly monopolized the boards for this period. This reaction is gauged by a study of criticisms published in a New York newspaper, two professional theatrical magazines, two non-professional magazines, and a religious magazine. In this thesis an attempt has been made to trace some of the direct influences of Virgil's great epic upon Milton's Paradise Lost. The general similarities of the two poets and their principal works together with their similar classical pictures, the borrowings of Milton from Virgil's classical Mythology, and, most important, the plan of the two poems in relation to the forms of a good epic, were used as convenient points of division. An attempt was made to prove these points of similarity by direct quotations from both poets.

Critics have not yet come to an agreement as to how much Goethe took from Voss's Luise for his Hermann und Dorothea: and how much credit we are justified in giving to Goethe's originality for his production. When Hermann und Dorothea first appeared, it was scorned by a great many readers as being a rather poor imitation of Luise. Now it is undoubtedly regarded as the better productions of the two.
