During the early grades, female students generally display enthusiasm for learning science. As these same students go though school, however, their level of motivation changes. Once female students reach high school, many lack the confidence to take chemistry and physics. Then, in college they lack the background necessary to major in chemistry, physics, and engineering. This study used quantitative data to investigate the correlation between female students' motivation, self-esteem, and standards-based state science achievement tests combined with a qualitative survey of student’s perceptions of parents’ attitudes toward science. The objectives of this study are: (a) to analyse and categorise the errors made by Arab students of French when using four French past tenses: the imparfait, passé composé, plus-que-parfait, and passé simple; (b) to compare the French past tenses with Arabic past tenses; and (c) to suggest some pedagogical strategies. Consequently, seduction —as stimulation of love and pleasure- has been discussed often; however, its psychological motivations (other than pleasure), and its consequences have not been sufficiently studied, particularly with regard to the works of the French author Guy de Maupassant. The extracellular matrix (ECM) is an essential requirement for maintaining permanent shape and rigidity in multicellular organisms. The ECM serves two main functions: scaffolding and signaling. Insoluble collagen and soluble proteoglycans, glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), and glycoproteins allow for water retention and flexibility. The signaling role of the ECM is essential for a multitude of events including vascular development and angiogenesis. Via interactions with vascular endothelial cells, proteins of the ECM can induce or repress angiogenesis.

Understanding how forest management practices impact bats is important for maintaining a diverse bat community; rare species, especially the federally endangered Indiana myotis (Myotis sodalis) need special consideration. Bats play an important role in the environment because they prey on insects, especially pest species, and conservation of viable foraging and roosting habitats is critical. Positive and negative aspects of the implementation of forest management techniques are discussed for each bat species. Atmospheric CO2 varied considerably in the past; however, the mechanisms that drive this variability are poorly understood. CO2 is linked to marine primary productivity through the biological carbon pump (BCP), leading to hypotheses that past increases in BCP efficiency in areas such as the Southern Ocean may have contributed to glacial CO2 drawdown (Sarmiento & Toggweiler, 1984). Productivity has varied considerably in the past, but the extent, timing, and impacts remain poorly understood. In this study, groups of elementary French students in two classes at Western Kentucky University utilized two different methods of skit performance to demonstrate the importance of communicative activities in the foreign language classroom. The effectiveness of each method was assessed to determine which method helped the students acquire grammar and vocabulary concepts more readily. One method was to have students write their own skits using a chapter in their textbook. The other method was to give students an outline that they filled in and memorized. Thibaut De Champagne And Disputed Attributions: The Case Of Mss Bern, Burgerbibliothek 389 (C) And Paris, Bnf Fr. 1591(R), Christopher Callahan

This essay examines the manuscript context of the songs of Thibaut de Champagne that were either marginalized in or excluded from A. Wallensköld’s 1925 edition. An evaluation of the placement and ordering of Thibaut’s songs in the codices, as well as their rubrics and melodies, affords an understanding of the construction of these chansonniers, obscured through decades of reliance on print editions. A rapid scrutiny of these linguistically (C) and musically (R) marginal manuscripts both reveals how little we know about the transmission of trouvère lyric and underscores the importance of a material-philological approach for all future editions of the …

This dissertation explores the exciting world of eighteenth-century French dramatic writing, performance and criticism from the point of view of the theatrical spectator. Instead of focusing on one single genre or writer, I assemble the textual creation, performance, and criticism of certain “polemical” plays into what I term a “theatrical event.” This optic provides a holistic vision of theater and an accurate view of how drama underwent noticeable change due to playwrights’ political associations, public reactions to performance, and the emerging power of the periodical press. Representation of social groups in the comics is serious. In 2006, a series of twelve cartoons published in a Danish newspaper sparked a controversy that precipitated the deaths of hundreds of people. The images depicted Mohammed and other images that supposedly mocked Islam. All across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa protesters paraded through the streets, some calling for the death of the cartoonists. Trials in Europe over the publication of these cartoons resulted in several firings. Counter protests have also arisen.
