It has seen and experienced so much death in its life, that it hates the hope of life that spring brings with it. It has resigned itself to death and gloom.

It is to look at a blank piece of paper and imagine all that you could do wrong, rather than all that you could do right. Perfection comes in the form of constant erasing, frustration, and questioning; however, it is by daring to push against these chains that you can find true freedom. And it is when you discover this freedom that your entire world will change and you will no longer be bound by chains.

"The Rending" follows a woman’s healing journey as the Lord helps her confront her fragmented self. With His guidance, she watches her various identities peel away, revealing a small girl representing her core self. Through God's compassionate touch, the woman undergoes a transformative process of reintegration, ultimately accepting the broken parts of her, but more importantly, discovering the profound love and acceptance that the Lord has always held for her, completely independent of any piece of her identity.

This article examines some elements in the crafting of my novel, Isabela (2024), particularly its novelistic formation, and its take on the emblematic figure of the wounded woman in war. I demonstrate what non-conventional stylistic and conceptual decisions give the story its syncretic mode of thought, as its trail shifts from city to barrio, one category of fiction to another, and one wounded woman to the next. This thesis reimagines the consequences of my great-grandmother’s life. It is an attempt to demystify women’s conditioned roles within private and public spaces and note how, through this conditioning, their identity is repressed to the point of diffidence and eventually, abhorrence towards their own bodies and the physical spaces they occupy. This is portrayed in poetry form through the voice of my great-grandmother as the primary speaker, and is interspersed with the voices of the grandmother, the mother, and the great-granddaughter.

Fallen Kingdoms And Ancient Monoliths: The Influence Of Atlantis And Egypt In Tolkien’S Númenor, Charlotte J. Brockway

Journal of Tolkien Research

In light of the recent publication of The Fall of Númenor, my essay aims to focus on Tolkien’s, somewhat underappreciated, influences on Gondor; particularly Ancient Egypt. This essay looks at Plato's Timaeus and Critias, Ignatius Donnelly's theories, and examines the Atlantean and Egyptian motifs in Tolkien’s version of Westernesse, in particular, the remnants of Atlantean civilization survived by Egyptian colonists which mirror the Realms of Exile (Gondor and Arnor).
