Poems Of Debate And Praise: Women As Published Authors In Sixteenth-Century France, Anna Soo-Hoo

Non-fictional, published poetic exchanges between men and women in sixteenth-century France provide new perspectives into how women writers operated in a literary culture whose main producers and dominant voice were male. Contrary to the notion repeated by many critics that women of that period were supposed to stay out of the public sphere, my study finds that publishing a woman’s poems did not destroy her reputation, and there appears to have been no major backlash when a man decided to include poems by a female contemporary in his book. Odd Botany engages with the concepts of the wild and the domestic in poetry to create whimsical, humorous poems that contend with the darker aspects of living. Varied in form, many of these poems are persona poems and use animals other than humans as speakers. Using distortion, surprise, and word-play, the poems attempt to create a psychic-turbulence to be pleasurable and enlivening to the reader.

This collection of short stories follows the themes of trauma and the feeling of not being enough for yourself or others. This includes the pressures we put on ourselves to keep trying to be “right” or what we’re “supposed to be”. The idea is apparent that reaching out instead of self- isolating benefits the characters. Black poets have long explored the effects of grief and tragedy through their work while also navigating the challenges of a racist American society. This manuscript delves into those themes as the poet examines how she, her family, and romantic interests operate within those strange spheres as well. She explores the unique intimacy of grief and social isolation as she shows us what it means to be a Black woman in a racist and capitalistic society. Her work reveals the pain of operating within those structures and the devastating emotional toll it can take on the Black family.

A collection of eight epistolary nonfiction essays by Téo Chesney concerned with the challenges of understanding the intersections of their identity as a Brazilian, transmasculine, adoptee. Objective Bibliometric analysis is one of the profound instruments to measure the research output quantitatively based on geometrical and statistical evaluation. The objective of the current study is to provide structural overview of the voluminous research work done so far via bibliometric analysis to access the significance of this tool in academic research.

In this article, I (re)constructed and (re)presented a dialogic inquiry among my chimeric selves engaged in a study which I conducted from 2013 to 2017 to examine teaching experiences of graduates from a social justice-oriented preservice program. I interrogated the roles of my different, disparate, and discontinuous selves in the research process – as a former teacher, a former instructor of my research participants, a researcher with particular academic and political opinions, and as a foreigner working toward a doctoral degree from/in a U.S. higher education institution. Madeleine Adams is from Walker, Louisiana. She graduated from Louisiana Tech University on March 6th, 2020, with her Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in literature. She is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in English with concentration in post-1660s British literature. Madeleine is interested in modern retellings of myths/folklore and the effects of storytelling on literature. She is the current dual enrollment Graduate Assistant, and she tutors at the writing center. She likes to paint, read, sew, and write poetry when she gets the chance.
