An Alphabetical Accumulation Of Approximate Observations, Kameelahjanan Rasheed, Special Collections, Fleet Library

Artists' Books

90 unnumbered pages : illustrations Cover title. Edition of 150. "Bright pink and gritty, An Alphabetical Accumulation of Approximate Observations serves as a visual A-Z of dissonant experiences, ranging from Cumulative Caskets to Weaponized Watermelon. The pink-speckled texture paired with crude, black cut-out letters enforces a distinctly D-I-Y feel, with the textual centerpieces serving nonsense literature in a brief and digestible form."-- Printed Matter, Inc., viewed December 9, 2020 Pink coated wire spiral binding. Risograph printed.

Topiary Forest, Isabella Krompegel-Anliker Jan 2019

Topiary Forest, Isabella Krompegel-Anliker

Art and Art History Honors Projects

“Topiary Forest” is an exploration into the transformative actions of my hands, my role in a culture which exploits nature, the separation of nature and culture, and the pressure to commodify any and all processes of creation. The project consists of thirty tree fragments which I made on the lathe, and with various saws, sanders, and carving tools. The trees arose out of a need to visually explore the frictions between traditional definitions of nature and culture, and a desire to question the disparities between my love of nature and my involvement in the ongoing exploitation of it. In making …

Shadow. Canto Three Incidental Music, Marlene Maccallum, Special Collections, Fleet Library Jan 2019

Shadow. Canto Three Incidental Music, Marlene Maccallum, Special Collections, Fleet Library

Artists' Books

1 volume (unpaged) : color illustrations. Cover title. Edition limited to 16 numbered copies, signed. Text appears blind-printed at the head and letterpress printed at the foot of some leaves. "'Shadow: Incidental Music' is the third canto of the ongoing project Shadow, a book work variation on the long poem format. 'Incidental Music' presents itself initially as a straightforward codex but upon opening reveals a cascade of nested accordion-fold structures. Naturally occurring patterns of light and shadow create cyclical but transient intrusions into interior spaces. Sunlight progresses through the time and space of the pages with a brief shadow-play balancing-act …

"The last pamphlet of 2019 is about: transportation networks, bicycling in the city, the Jamaica Bay Greenway, landfills, Robert Moses, how to get where you need to go, Starrett City and their seaside view, and finally, the Shirley Chisholm State Park out in East New York. It follows a bike ride that I took last fall that I particularly enjoyed."-- artists' website.

Visual Arts: Teaching Creativity From Within, Del Camara Jan 2019

Visual Arts: Teaching Creativity From Within, Del Camara

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In the ever-changing world of visual arts education, there is a gap in the literature about the incorporation of creativity, risk-taking, and play in the curriculum. The purpose of this study was to understand how high school visual arts educators teach visual arts and creativity in the age of digital media, including the practices art teachers use to engage their students in their development of art-making and ways teachers encourage students to take risks in art-making practices. Utilizing an arts-based research method focusing on four case studies in the Central Valley of California, this inquiry examined the way visual arts …
