How The Lukan Beatitudes Must Form A Christian Leader's Values In A Capitalistic Culture, Jeff Gossman

Journal of Applied Christian Leadership

This article examines the general terminal and instrumental values of Christian leaders and the values of capitalism and capitalistic culture. Using the socio-rhetorical method, this article analyzes the Lukan Beatitudes (Luke 6:20–26). The study pays close attention to social and cultural textures in Luke’s Gospel to make sense of the extreme propositions in Luke 6:20–26. The social and cultural textures of limited good worldview, apocalyptic ideology, and sect typologies illuminate multiple values that should inform Christian leaders. The remainder of the article evaluates the Christian values of the Lukan Beatitudes in conversation with a capitalistic culture’s values. The study reveals …

This dissertation study investigates the intricate and complicated interplay between the border walls of imperial states, environmental change, and dispossession. Employing a multidisciplinary approach rooted in Political Ecology, and drawing on the theoretical frameworks of Social Metabolism, Social Kinetics, and Green History, the study is built around an analysis of two historical examples: the Roman border walls in the north of England (Hadrian’s Wall and the Antonine Wall), and the U.S.-Mexico border wall. Dance in art can be seen in paintings created by artists such as Edgar Degas (1834-1917), Pierre Auguste-Renoir (1841-1919), Henri Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901), William Blake (1757-1827), John Singer Sargent (1856-1925), and Henri Matisse (1869-1954). Edgar Degas was a French Impressionist artist who was known for his work of arts featuring ballerinas. Pierre Auguste-Renoir was also a French Impressionist artist like Degas, but he was more so known for his real-life scenario paintings. Sipùwas (wild plum) grow along sipuwa (streams). They are among the first trees to flower in sikòn (spring), produce sour fruit in nipëni (summer), and brilliant foliage in tahkokën (fall). Along with other plants in the Gordon Natural Area, sipùwas were first used by Lenape as food and medicine. Part of traditional foraging grounds, Sipùwas Siputët (Plum Run) flows through the Gordon Natural Area’s tèkëne (woodlands), mëkëke (meadows), and tëlamaskek (wetlands), ultimately feeding into the Brandywine and Delaware Rivers.

The music of Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943), Russia’s great pianist, conductor, and composer, has often been maligned by critics and musicologists alike for its reluctance to follow the avant-garde of the music world into that great adventure of experiments in atonality and non-common-practice technique of the early twentieth century. Although the composer’s works are beloved by audiences worldwide, they have often faced complex critical reception for the composer’s supposed conservatism and relative lack of expressive palette. This project seeks to bring postcolonial theory and sociological theory into productive conversation in order to craft a "postcolonial sociology".The discipline of sociology emerged within (and often in service of) Western empire, while postcolonial theory has its origins in anti-colonial struggle. Sociological theory has since developed beyond its narrow imperial focus, but the imperial context of its origins persist in the sociological canon and epistemic approaches. From its founding on a colonial system to the current socioeconomic class structure in Bolivia, indigenous rights have been improving in the state. Las cholitas are an Aymaran, indigenous group within Bolivia. This essay looks at the portrayal of cholitas in two different Bolivian films: Los Andes no creen en Dios directed by Antonio Eguino (2007) and Zona sur by Juan Carlos Valdivia (2010). The former is set in the 1920s and the latter in 2010, thus showing the change in status of indigenous people over a 90-year gap. Teachers’ language modeling skills are important for children’s language development and school readiness. However, 34% of pre-kindergarten (pre-K) classrooms score in the low range on the language modeling dimension of the CLassroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) observation tool within the instructional support domain in a southern state. The specific purpose was to assess the relationships between the marital and parental roles and employment status of college-educated African American women and assess mental health impacts as a result of role strain. The theoretical foundation for the study was Goode's role strain theory. A research programme”, François Kammerer and Keith Frankish aim to map the space of “possible forms of introspection” while lending themselves to questions about how different kinds of minds represent themselves. We breathe as a measure of time, it keeps us alive, and fabricates the pattern of our lives. We are punctuated by “snarls,” “glitches,” or moments of irregularity – of trying to catch one's breath, having it taken away, or gasping for it. It is the punctuation of sighs, huffs, sniffs, scoffs, screams, and deep intakes that appear as glitches in the breathing system.
