Florida Politics, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

For those who think that sport and politics are separate entities, I offer a look at the strange world of Florida politics and the presidential aspirations of the governor of Florida. I do this as a historian and, in particular, a sport historian; as a Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Central Florida; and as a citizen of Florida and the United States.

Stern, Mark, Sophia Maier Garcia

Bronx Jewish History Project

Mark Stern was born in 1961 in the South Bronx. His paternal grandfather moved to the Bronx from Germany because of the Nazis. Stern’s maternal grandfather was from Turkey and a Ladino speaker. He moved to the Bronx where he met Stern’s paternal grandmother and got involved in the laundry business. Stern’s maternal grandmother’s family lived on Warner Street and owned a bakery, however because of local competition from Pectoris and a lack of enthusiasm for continuing the family business, the bakery closed. As a kid, Stern remembers visiting the industrial laundry building and visiting his grandparent's home in Clawson …

The Ontological Grounds Of Reason: Psychologism, Logicism, And Hermeneutic Phenomenology, Stanford L. Howdyshell

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The following dissertation explains the psychologism debate as it played out in the 19thand early 20th Centuries and then shows how Martin Heidegger radicalized the debate by undermining its key themes and assumptions. First, I explain each side of the psychologism debate, starting with the psychologicists. I explore the philosophies of Jakob Friedrich Fries and John Stuart Mill in order to encapsulate the full spectrum of psychologism in the 19th Century, from Neo-Kantian to British Empiricist. The investigation will show a set of common themes within psychologism, such as the grounding of logic in the constitution of the human subject, …

SIGNED: The Magazine of The Hong Kong Design Institute

Declaring you want to create a time machine will probably earn you some sideways glances. However, Brett Leavy's vision of a virtual representation of the Australian continent as it was before European colonisation is more than just a flight of imagination. On the contrary, the technology exists, and Leavy has been working for decades to refine it to his needs.

In retrospect, it is easy to connect the dots to explain how something of significance came into being. But when starting out on this journey, the motivations and decisions will often be just arbitrary or by chance. The "heritage business preservation eco-system" that is Whole Love Kyoto and Kyoto Traditional Culture Innovation Laboratory, is one such case.

Analysis Of Imported And Local Chert From The Paynes Creek Salt Works, Belize, Using 3d Technology And Traditional Methods, Hollie Lincoln

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation presents information about ancient Maya trade, stone tool use, tool technology, and the every-day activities at the Paynes Creek Salt Works in southern Belize. Research on chert stone tools follows traditional analysis methods with emphasis on material composition. The feasibility of stone tool analysis conducted using 3D technology is also explored, emphasizing the limitations and benefits of these methods. While chert stone tools and stone resource allocation are predominantly the foci of this work, excavations at submerged ancient salt making sites present additional artifacts, including wood and pottery, that also characterize the daily activities of people living and …

Will Digital Fashion Be The New Normal In The Metaverse Era: Examining Consumers’ Perceptions Of Digital Fashion, Yanbo Zhang Mar 2023

Will Digital Fashion Be The New Normal In The Metaverse Era: Examining Consumers’ Perceptions Of Digital Fashion, Yanbo Zhang

LSU Master's Theses

Digital fashion might bring an innovative and revolutionary answer to address environmental and social issues in the textile and apparel industry because it could simultaneously deliver sustainability and fashionability. To stay in the lead in the fashion kingdom and maintain innovativeness, luxury fashion brands are embracing digital fashion. Instead of constantly balancing or trading off between exclusive values and accessibility, luxury brands could enhance both through digital fashion items. As such, investigating consumers’ perceptions and evaluations of digital fashion in general and luxury brands’ digital fashion in specific is critical to fueling digital fashion. Accordingly, the current research has twofold …

Joan Brock, born 1943, grew up on Bryant Avenue between 173 and 174 Streets in the Bronx. The East Bronx was considered poorer than the West Bronx, split by the Grand Concourse. Both of her parents were born and raised in New York, and they met while they were both working in a tea factory. Her father would get into the business of selling vending machines until Brock was 13 and he bought a hardware store. Her mother never worked after marrying except to help her husband with the store.

Brock describes the neighborhood as predominantly Jewish and Italian, though …

Trigger Warnings And A Pedagogy Of Trust, Morgan Read-Davidson

English Faculty Articles and Research

"As the director of both the creative writing and rhetoric and composition programs at Chapman University, a mid-sized private university serving 150+ majors as well as 1000+ general education students, it has now become a common and expected occurrence to have both students and contingent faculty come to my office expressing anxiety over course content. While the larger conversation about difficult content and trigger warnings is not new, the sudden need for urgently scheduled meetings with me did not begin until the COVID-19 Pandemic and our move to remote instruction. This seems to coincide with the increase of online and …
