Teaching With Twitter: A Collaborative Experiment Using Twitter In The Classroom, Brian Vetruba, Makiba Foster, Kristina Kleutghen
WashU Libraries Presentations
In a world where social media are becoming part of our daily existence in a variety of ways, Twitter is making inroads as a method for engaging students. In fact, a recent study published in the Journal of Computer Assisted Learning found a higher rate of student engagement with faculty and course material--as well as better grades—among students who were Twitter users. Kristina, Makiba, and Brian will describe a collaborative experiment in integrating Twitter into two Art History courses in the fall of 2011. They will share lessons learned and engage participants in a discussion of best practices for using …

How Do The Absurd And The Realistic Blend In Comic Strips?, Frank Bramlett
How Do The Absurd And The Realistic Blend In Comic Strips?, Frank Bramlett
English Faculty Publications
One of my favorite webcomics is Wondermark, by David Malki !. What fascinates me about the strip is how mundane, ordinary elements get combined with unexpected elements to create a strong sense of the absurd, the fantastic(al), and the unreal. Generally, the physical setting of the strip is Dickensian, often involving not much more than two or three characters in a library, parlor, or dining room. Occasionally, the characters will interact in a scientific laboratory or public place, like on a street corner. Often it’s the language of the strip that creates the absurd. The characters broach topics that …
Some Thoughts On God And Culture: Divine Worldview, Torah As A Philosophy Of Life, And The Possibility Of Transforming Culture, Tiago Arrais
Some Thoughts On God And Culture: Divine Worldview, Torah As A Philosophy Of Life, And The Possibility Of Transforming Culture, Tiago Arrais
180 Symposium Publications
While many seek to make God and Church relevant to a multiplicity of current cultures, the God of Scripture presents a Divine worldview that can function as a timeless philosophy. This enables one to evaluate secular cultures as evil. In Old Testament times, God’s people repeatedly opted for the cultures around them in place of the worldview God offered. In New Testament times, the same Divine worldview is available to the Church. Christian leaders and parents must actively teach the Divine worldview or else the 2nd and 3rd generations will assimilate the evil cultures of their environment.

On Sport and Society
The Alabama Crimson Tide football team is now officially the BCS National Field Goal Champion. This was achieved despite the fact that the Tide did score a touchdown in the waning moments of the game and then watched their kicker miss the extra point. The Alabama coach, Nick Saban, must have been quite proud of this achievement, as it obliterated the loss to LSU in the Field Goal contest of November to determine which team was number one in the nation at that point in the season.
