Worship Preferences And Practices To Reach Second And Third Generation Latinos, Andres Flores
Worship Preferences And Practices To Reach Second And Third Generation Latinos, Andres Flores
180 Symposium Publications
Second and third generation Latinos are the fastest growing population among the largest minority in the United States. Worship and music are a crucial part of their religious experience and spiritual growth. They favor energetic, public worship that is biblically based and passionately led. However, there is a gap between their preferences and perceptions and those of the first generation Latinos who typically lead Hispanic churches. This gap must be bridged for U.S-born Latinos to thrive and develop as disciples of Christ.

The Crisis Of Reality, Paul Dysinger
The Crisis Of Reality, Paul Dysinger
180 Symposium Publications
In our modern world we are faced with virtual realities on every side. In the realm of faith, young people are offered a virtual Christianity. What makes God real rather than virtual? What is reality? The Word of God expresses and defines what is reality for Christians. It defines a real gospel of power, calling the sinner to repentance, confession, and a turning away from sin. It then offers a real relationship with a real God, transforming our sinful hearts through His character of love.
Critical Perspectives On Reconciliation And Structural Oblivion, Diana Ramirez Vargas
Critical Perspectives On Reconciliation And Structural Oblivion, Diana Ramirez Vargas
Conflict, Memory, and Reconciliation: Bridging past, present, and future
The contemporary culture of memory places testimony at the center of historiographic production. The testimony of individualized experiences of suffering and pain are utilized to construe collective memory and social consciousness, to create new moral regimes and disclose previously unknown “truths” about the past. However, the possibilities of enunciation from this space of political representation are restricted as they are inscribed in the language of Restoration and Reconciliation promulgated by Human Rights discourse. Albeit the epistemological turn which privileges narrative truth, testimonies are being commodified by the global industry of transitional politics as they become the object of political negotiation. …

During the 1960s, nearly 80 percent of adult Americans were married. A recent analysis of U.S. census data reported that only 52 percent of adult Americans were married in 2009. That is the lowest percentage reported in the 100 years the Census Bureau has collected such information. The reasons for this dramatic cultural shift are well known: high rates of divorce; changing attitudes toward premarital sex; social acceptability of cohabitation; the weakening of the stigma surrounding out-of-wedlock births and single parenting; the postponement of marriage and children for academic or professional reasons.

God Has No Grandchildren, Steve Case
God Has No Grandchildren, Steve Case
180 Symposium Publications
Biological births create second and third generations. A spiritual birth creates a child of God regardless of that person’s age or relationship to other biological generations. That’s why God has no grandchildren; only children. The second birth may lack obvious, tangible markers. Those who grow up with religious parents might not be able to name a date or place for their own spiritual re-birth. New environments seem more conducive for new-birth experiences. We need additional markers. Complications, misunderstanding, and power plays may arise when the first, second and third generations flatten into one generation called “Children of God.”

Interpreting the Civil War: Connecting the Civil War to the American Public
In 1963, former president Dwight D. Eisenhower spoke in the cemetery at Gettysburg to help celebrate the centennial of Lincoln's Address. His own speech was somewhat lackluster, largely skirting the issue of the war's legacy in the racially charged aftermath of freedom summer. [excerpt]

Studying Socioeconomic Trends Through Cemetery Sales Records: A Case Study Of Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando, Florida, Victoria Abigail Kennedy Lawrence
Studying Socioeconomic Trends Through Cemetery Sales Records: A Case Study Of Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando, Florida, Victoria Abigail Kennedy Lawrence
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Cemeteries are microcosms of society bound together in sacred spaces. As manifestations of social mores, cemeteries allow anthropologists to obtain information on social development and structure. Where noninvasive study is mandated, crucial methods of interpretation include studies of landscape design, floral incorporation, grave marker design and development, and grave mementos. This thesis discusses these and other methods as they are used to infer group mores. It also indicates how information acquired from methods can be adversely affected by outside influences, such as vandalism, weathering, and replotting. This thesis adds to known methods of cemetery research another unbiased, noninvasive tool that …
