Just Military Preparedness (Jus Ante Bellum): A New Category Of Just War Theory, Harry Van Der Linden

This presentation discusses why just war theory is in need of just military preparedness (jus ante bellum) as a new category of just war thinking and it articulates six principles of just military preparedness. The paper concludes that the United States fails to satisfy any of these principles and addresses how this bears on the application of jus ad bellum, jus in bello, and jus post bellum norms to possible future American military interventions.

A Microwave Radiometer For Close Proximity Core Body Temperature Monitoring: Design, Development, And Experimentation, Quenton Bonds

Presented is a radiometric sensor and associated electromagnetic propagation models, developed to facilitate non-invasive core body temperature extraction. The system has been designed as a close-proximity sensor to detect thermal emissions radiated from deep-seated tissue 1 cm – 3 cm inside the human body. The sensor is intended for close proximity health monitoring applications, with potential implications for deployment into the improved astronaut liquid cooling garment (LCG). The sensor is developed for high accuracy and resolution. Therefore, certain design issues that distort the close proximity measurement have been identified and resolved. This workshop looks at two technologies that can be used to energize traditional poster and writing assignments to bring them beyond text: Glogster and Blogger. Both are free, easy to use websites with which students can create web pages with images, text, and audio to share with their classmates and the world. In the workshop, intended for instructors and curriculum coordinators, we will look at each of these platforms, discuss examples of project assignment guides using each of the sites, and talk about other ways they could be integrated into courses. 馬家寶（1925-1985）是1949 年後香港第一代油畫家，他活 躍於五十年代中至八十年代中的香港畫壇，以寫實風格的油畫著稱。 傳統藝術史一直關注代表不同地區及時代的主流藝術風格，而六十至 七十年代的港英政府和社會大眾均較為注重現代主義藝術的發展，馬 氏寫實風格的藝術創作與之相比有點守舊，所以他的藝術一直未能得 到研究香港史的學者和藝術家們足夠的關注和深入的研究。

雖然從傳統藝術史的角度來看，馬家寶的藝術只是六十至七 十年代少數、不具代表性的藝術創作，但是從藝術社會學和意識形態 學看來，驅使馬家寶畢生採用寫實的形式來創作藝術，和社會環境對 他的藝術創作所造成的影響，卻是個值得探索的問題。因此，此次研 究會將馬氏之藝術按時序分為三個階段，結合歷史、文化和社會背景 並進行對比，從而探索他堅持以寫實風格為終生藝術創作形式的原 因、藝術的觀點和藝術的追求。籍著對馬家寶藝術的個案研究，希望 本論文能為關注香港本地藝術發展史的學者和藝術家，提供一份參 考，從一個新的角度回顧及審視香港藝術史。

In 1998 Marianne Weems and The Builders Association, in collaboration with the architects/media artists Elizabeth Diller and Ricardo Scofidio, presented JET LAG, a cross-media project that was ahead of its time. JET LAG is based on two overlapping true stories about eccentric individuals who manipulated time and space, turning their travels into a new kind of escape. In 1969 an ambitious sailor set out on a round-the-world sailboat race only to discover that he could “win” by simply sending radio reports of his false travel times while sailing in circles off the coast of South America. The establishment of a lecture series honoring a library’s special collections and a donor to that collection is unique. Utah State University’s Merrill-Cazier Library houses the personal and historical collection of Leonard J. Arrington, a renowned scholar of the American West. As part of Arrington’s gift to the university, he requested that the university’s historical collection become the focus for an annual lecture on an aspect of Mormon history. Utah State agreed to the request and in 1995 inaugurated the annual Leonard J. Arrington Mormon History Lecture.

Margaret Mendoza, born in El Paso, Texas on October 22, 1934, worked for Farah for three years. Shortly after graduating from Bowie High School, she married an army soldier and left El Paso for Brooklyn, New York, but her marriage was not successful and she moved back to El Paso with her children. Because Mendoza needed to support her family she worked as a receptionist in several offices in El Paso. Later, her friend recommended that she work for Farah. She was hired at Farah and she earned twice as much connecting calls for the company, but would also tape …
