The Audience In Charleston's Theatres, 1790 - 1860, Pamela Morris Adams
The Audience In Charleston's Theatres, 1790 - 1860, Pamela Morris Adams
Theses and Dissertations
From the perspective of the 20th century, Charleston, South Carolina, seems an unlikely beginning for American theatre, but Charleston of previous centuries had the location and economy to attract theatrical activity. More importantly, Charleston had a population that was consistently receptive to theatre. Eola Willis' The Charleston Stage in the XVIII Century, with Social Settings of the Time demonstrates that a number of American theatrical firsts occurred in Charleston, such as the first performance by a professional actor, the first opera, and the first American prologues.

Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
I have known since I was a child that art was of therapeutic value to me. I spent long hours painting and drawing while growing up and majored in art as an undergraduate. As a graduate, I earned a credential to teach art in kindergarten through junior college and a general secondary credential enabling me to teach art and the humanities in high school. Mathematics: The Loss Of Certainty (Book Review), Calvin Jongsma
Faculty Work Comprehensive List
Morris Kline was a contentious mathematician and author, documenting (as he saw it) both the deficiencies of mid-twentieth-century reformist trends in mathematics education and formalist views of the foundations (and practice) of mathematics. This brief introduction to a discussion of Kline's 1980 book and its mixed reception by the mathematics community provides a context for assessing his ideas as part of his overall views on the nature of mathematics.
Abstract Paintings: A Presentation Of Visual Essence, Kimble A. Bromley
Abstract Paintings: A Presentation Of Visual Essence, Kimble A. Bromley
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
My thesis has consisted of searching out the visual essence of the representational world and presenting it in abstract paintings. When I began my thesis, I had been painting in a representational mode and found that I was drawn to certain components of interior and exterior environments that excited me: geometrical structure, space, color, light, and mood. My work became more abstract because I made a decision to leave out extraneous detail and focused in on these important visual elements. I felt that painting this way freed me to concentrate on and communicate to the viewer, what was most important …

Graduate Composition Recital, Aristocles Carastathis
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
Mycenae was conceived in September 1982 and was completed in January 1983. It is scored for orchestra and two narrators prerecorded on tape. The composition was inspired by a poem by Greek poet George Seferis entitled "Mycenae." In an effort to stay within programmatic planes, the music reflects many of the metaphorical ideas of the poem and materializes them - or realizes them - by exploiting unusual sound effects. The poem thrives on the use of symbolism and metaphor by drawing analogues between the tragedy of one of the most prominent ancient civilizations (the civilization of Mycenae) and the tragedy …
