The purpose of this study was to develop a teaching aid for the school band director which will demonstrate the instruments of the band. This demonstration utilizes slides showing the various band instruments, a narration explaining the function of the instruments, and musical examples.

This study is an attempt to determine whether an attitude-inventory instrument applicable to high school band students can be developed. The purpose of this study is to gain evidence supporting these general hypotheses: That an attitude inventory can be constructed to measure the responses of high school band students in certain attitude areas. That differences can be found between the responses of high school band students having positive attitudes toward the band program, and those band students having negative attitudes toward the band program. A great deal of speaking was done in connection with these programs . The following study was undertaken to discover the place and function of the speechmaking done in the circuit chautauqua. Because the state of Iowa has sometimes been called "the heart of the chautauqua", Iowa was chosen for this investigation.

The pitch to which the present day performing musical organizations tune, and subsequently the pitch at which they play their selected compositions, has usually been accepted as being the actual pitch intended by the composer for that particular piece. This is not always true. The pitch of the note A, which is used by most orchestras for tuning, has varied greatly over the last three to four hundred year•. Therefore, the pitch used at the time a particular composition was being written may have been higher or lower than the one in use today.
