So far as a careful scanning of the catalogs of ISNS reveals, the first mention of a museum occurs in the 1896 issue, where on page 45 we find that “Natural Science has its museum well stocked with minerals, rocks, fossils dried and alcoholic specimens.”

Instrumental music teachers are always searching for a published instructional method that satisfies all the criteria they seek to find in the perfect method. However, no one method can satisfy everyone. Each teacher supplements, with his own ideas, the method which he has found to be the most satisfactory. The author's experience indicated that the greatest amount of supplementing had to be done with the beginning pupils in the elementary grades.

Critical analyses of historical fiction for teaching purposes of the type projected in this study have not been available. Some brief bibliographies of historical fiction were available. However they were inadequate for the purpose underlying this study. There has been a need for more extensive analyses of historical fiction. The school band has become one of the foremost means of evaluating the program of music education in the public school. Although a school music program has many assets which cannot possibly be made articulate to the administration, school board, and public through a performing unit such as the concert band, the music educator is under pressure to produce fine results in his performing unit, and should strive to make every appearance of the group as musically perfect as possible. The proposed elementary string class method embraces the following classical instruments: the violin, viola, violoncello (cello) and double bass (string bass, contrabass or bass). An elementary class may consist of any group of grade school or junior high students, or any group of beginners. The Q approach recommended may also be called the white key (piano terminology) or natural scale approach. This system may be better understood by a study of the discussion to follow.

In the past, there has been a certain amount of music transcribed for ensemble groups, but a great deal of this transcribing has been done on a commercial basis without an accompanying systematic study of style.

When one reads many of the long narrative poems of Robinson Jeffers, one wonders at the characters who act out their lives against a backdrop of the contemporary California coastal region. The characters live isolated lives as ranchers, farmers, and farm women; they go about the business of eking out an existence, of cultivating their land, of caring for their livestock. Often, they commit horrible, unnatural acts and always, they or their families are involved in episodes which result in death or injury.
