Using A Visitor Based Framework To Observe Engagement In A Children's Museum Makerspace, Sara Mccubbins

Theses and Dissertations

Many challenges still exist in finding ways to measure the impact of informal learning environments. Much of the research that does exist is anecdotal in nature and examines engagement by intuition or informal feedback. The purpose of this concurrent mixed methods study was to better understand engagement and learning by converging both quantitative and qualitative data. In the study, an observation protocol was used to measure the engagement levels of children in a museum makerspace, and field notes were collected to explore the context in which this engagement takes place. Branching Topology: The Aesthetics And Symbolism Of Glass Trees, Michael Lyn Tracy

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis discusses my glass artwork which I make to help me understand the world. Trees, specifically bonsai trees, are used as inspirational imagery. The work explores the physical and symbolic aspects of the trees and the relationships that develop between the maker, the object, and the viewer. The series of work split into two distinct styles and the relationships of the styles as they relate to aspects of my personality are explored.

The Edith Wherry Muckleston Collection, University Of Oregon Library, James Karman

Jeffers Studies

Novelist Edith Wherry Muckleston (1876–1961) and Una Jeffers met in 1907 at a sorority event at the University of California, Berkeley. Edith describes their meeting and the friendship that ensued in a 1929 memoir titled “A Poet’s Wife — Una Jeffers.” The memoir is included among Edith’s papers at the University of Oregon, along with ten letters to her from Una, one from Robinson, and a draft of a letter from Edith to Robinson. These documents are published here for the first time, along with a biographical introduction.

Article examining how William Gordon Lillie, native of Bloomington, Illinois, was viewed by residents of the town through newspaper reports and other sources. Lillie achieved considerable fame as Wild West showman Pawnee Bill and was often associated with other legends of the American West.

The Effects And Comparisons Of Receptive Live Music Listening And Expressive Music Making On Mood With Elderly Adults In A Congregate Residential Setting, Rory Kendall Bolton

It is important to consider mood and its effect on elderly persons as many older adults will experience symptoms of depression. In prior studies, research indicated that preferred music listening and expressive music making can positively change mood in older adults. The purpose of this research study was to investigate the differences between receptive music listening and expressive music making (presented as a facilitated group music therapy session) and their effect on participants’ mood.
