An Objective Study Of Ii Peter, Maurice E. Beery Jan 1951

An Objective Study Of Ii Peter, Maurice E. Beery

Graduate Thesis Collection

II Peter has been a very controversial epistle. To use the term, 'has been', takes us as far back as the second century, for the early church fathers were sceptical of its value and authenticity and some have claimed that it came near not being part of the New Testament canon.

You will note that this study is not a commentary but rather an introduction to the problems that have arisen concerning this epistle.

A Critical Study Of The Colossian Epistle, Vernon Bowers Jan 1951

A Critical Study Of The Colossian Epistle, Vernon Bowers

Graduate Thesis Collection

Among the twenty-seven books in the New Testament canon, there is an epistle addressed to the church which met at Golossae. This epistle isn't very large; in fact it barely consumes four or five pages in the entire Bible. Yet it is important; for with it there is left to the Christian world a remnant of history, both of the life of the church and of the life of her greatest apostle, which it would not have otherwise possessed. A great number of Christian communications which, if they would have been preserved, would have yielded many times over the information …

Textual Parallels To The Doctrine And Covenants And Book Of Commandments As Found In The Bible, Ellis T. Rasmussen Jan 1951

Textual Parallels To The Doctrine And Covenants And Book Of Commandments As Found In The Bible, Ellis T. Rasmussen

Theses and Dissertations

The problem of this thesis is: What textual relationship does the Doctrine and Covenants of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints bear to the Bible, King James Version?
As a preliminary hypothesis, it has been assumed that there are phrases and clauses in the Doctrine and Covenants similar enough in construction and meaning to some of the phrases and clauses in the Bible to permit selection of samples from both that will parallel each other. Whether such parallel phrasing, when found, would appear to be a result of quoting, adapting, reiterating, renewing, alluding or simply coincidental construction constituted …

History Of The Provo Times And Enquirer 1873-1897, Robert D. Anderson Jan 1951

History Of The Provo Times And Enquirer 1873-1897, Robert D. Anderson

Theses and Dissertations

The home of the Provo Times and Enquirer was a typical Mormon town founded on the east shore of Utah Lake in 1849. While some Gentiles (non-Mormons) had moved into the area by 1873 when the first newspaper appeared, the community was still dominated and controlled by members of the Latter-day Saint Church, which was the cause of some tension.

Even though after twenty-four years of settlement Provo had well-established farms, businesses, and the beginnings of industry, it did not have a newspaper, although publications had been founded earlier in several other cities of the territory. In the winter of …

A Study Of Early Adventist Interpretations Of The Laodicean Message With Emphasis On The Writings Of Mrs. E. G. White, Felix A. Lorenz Sr. Jan 1951

A Study Of Early Adventist Interpretations Of The Laodicean Message With Emphasis On The Writings Of Mrs. E. G. White, Felix A. Lorenz Sr.

Master's Theses

The Problem

Statement of the problem. It is the purpose of this study (1) to lay a groundwork for a correct present understanding of the seven churches by examining representative historical interpretations; (2) to determine its place in the Advent Awakening culminating in the 1844 movement; (3) to study the opinions of early Sabbath-keeping Adventists on the meaning of this prophecy; (4) and above all, to ascertain, if possible, its significance to Seventh-day Adventists today.

Importance of the Study

If the passage in the third chapter of Revelation addressed to the Laodicean Church has any special reference to the Seventh-day …
