Boniface The Apostle Of Romanism, William E. Meyer
Boniface The Apostle Of Romanism, William E. Meyer
Bachelor of Divinity
Winfrid(Boniface) was born of a noble family in Devonshire about 680 A. D. From his early youth he was inclined to the study of spiritual things rather than to temporal knowledge. His father was disappointed at this predilection in his son, since he had intended to make him successor of his estate. Softened by sickness the father finally consented to his son's ecclesiastical ambition and sent him to the monastery Adesconcastre. There he showed earnestness and zeal for learning so that his abbot sent him to the advanced school at Nhutscelle.

"And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee but my Father which is in heaven. And I say unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven: and whatsoever …
A Study In The Literature Of The Disciples Of Christ, Alfred T. Degroot
A Study In The Literature Of The Disciples Of Christ, Alfred T. Degroot
Graduate Thesis Collection
The investigations which follow were undertaken out of a desire to make a definite and practical contribution to the study of the literature of the Disciples of Christ. Especially have we wanted to devise some means of putting the informaiton concerning this distinctive literature into such a form as to make it useable and helpful to the ministers and laymen in the movement in question. This we believe has been accomplished in Part II of the present volume.
Ecclesiastical Union Verses Christian Unity, Eric C. Malte
Ecclesiastical Union Verses Christian Unity, Eric C. Malte
Bachelor of Divinity
Is it true that the union which is advocated by this coming conference is based on God's ideal? Placing the basis of the proposed union along side of the basis laid down in the Bible, we find that the former is based on man's conception and is in direct conflict with many clear passages of Scripture. Nothing is more emphatically taught and stressed in the Bible then that church-fellowship must always, and in all places, be preceded by unity in the spirit, unity in doctrine. We learn this from such passages as Rom.16,17; Eph. 4,3-6 , 13, and many similar …
A Presentation And Critique Of The Roman, Reformed, And Lutheran Doctrine If The Lord's Supper-, Clarence Peters
A Presentation And Critique Of The Roman, Reformed, And Lutheran Doctrine If The Lord's Supper-, Clarence Peters
Bachelor of Divinity
In his first epistle to Timothy Paul writes: “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy." The Holy Spirit who transmits the divine revelation, was especially active in the early days of the Christian Church. In this case the Spirit had expressly declared that there would be a falling away from the truth in times to come. Men would actually apostatize from the faith, would teach and preach in direct opposition to the sound doctrine of the Gospel. How …
Conscience Its Nature And Function, Richard R. Caemmerer
Conscience Its Nature And Function, Richard R. Caemmerer
Bachelor of Divinity
The subject as stated in itself excludes the problem of the origin of conscience, a large field especially in phylogenetic theories (theories of remorse, origin of duty, origin of the good); it excludes the practical aspects and applications of the doctrines of conscience (systems of casuistry; social sphere of conscience; freedom of conscience). The subject has been-further limited, a procedure demanded by considerations of time and space, by a particular viewpoint applied to this discussion. The viewpoint permits formulation in the shape of a statement of the problem, namely: To determine the validity of the term "conscience" as an ethical …
Ecclesiastical Union Verses Christian Unity, Theodore Moeller
Ecclesiastical Union Verses Christian Unity, Theodore Moeller
Bachelor of Divinity
The tendency of Protestantism to split up into various sects has not infrequently been noted and variously explained. Roman Catholics, especially, make the most of this situation and point with pride to the unity of their church. “If once you permit individual judgment to be pitted against authority all the followers of the revolter will, in turn, claim the same privilege against him. The result is obvious. Even before the revolting church had made its position secure against the church of Rome disunion and separatism had come into its ranks. "This condition has often been deplored and the cry of …

The Jewish Festivals Mentioned In The New Testament, Walter W. Koenig
The Jewish Festivals Mentioned In The New Testament, Walter W. Koenig
Bachelor of Divinity
As far as the life of the New Testament believer is concerned, the ancient festivals of the Jews are null and void. All Old Testament rites and ceremonies, which were only "a shadow of things to come” (Col. 2,16), have been abrogated by the coming of God's Son into the flesh. But even though the Jewish festivals are no longer to be observed by us, we cannot afford to forget all about them. Leaving the Old Testament out of the question altogether, the proper understanding of the New Testament alone demands a thorough investigation of all that is connected with …

Modern Protestant Missions Before Carey, Lorenz C. Wunderlich
Modern Protestant Missions Before Carey, Lorenz C. Wunderlich
Bachelor of Divinity
The church of Jesus Christ is essentially a missionary organization. She is the product of missionary effort, her progress depends on evangelising endeavors. The very existence of the Church calls for mission, her self-preservation demands it. Missionary enterprise, however, is not the device of man, it is God's thought, plan, and work; it is as old as the eternal counsels of God regarding the salvation of mankind.

The Causes Of The Persecution Of The Early Christians, Karl H. Maier
The Causes Of The Persecution Of The Early Christians, Karl H. Maier
Bachelor of Divinity
The popular and traditional view of the persecutions of the Christiane considers them to be ten in number lasting from 64 to 311 A.D. The persecutions are looked upon as fiendish and arbitrary attacks of various emperors against Christianity out of hatred, and periods of comparative quiet appear to be indication that some emperors favored or recognized Christianity. The consideration of the persecutions in this light leads to the opinion that they were all of the same nature, and gives no indication of the real depth of the conflict and the issues involved.

The need of a careful study of the matter at hand at once becomes patent in consideration of the numerous references in Scripture to these feasts which when not fully understood, often obscure the meaning and rob the full significance of the passages in which they occur.
The scope of the thesis is to present the feasts as observed in the Old Testament, to explain the references to them in the New, and briefly to set forth the spiritual bearing they have on the Christian Church.
