The Virgin Birth Of Christ, Edgar Reinhold Pflug May 1929

The Virgin Birth Of Christ, Edgar Reinhold Pflug

Bachelor of Divinity

It shall be our object to trace the history of the controversy over this doctrine from its very beginnings to the present time; to state briefly and to refute the arguments of the opposition; and finally to search out the true Biblical version of the Lord’s birth, of which we are confident that it will also be the view upheld by the Lutheran Church from its very inception.

The Idea Of God In 20th Century Philosophy, Frederick C. Stein May 1929

The Idea Of God In 20th Century Philosophy, Frederick C. Stein

Bachelor of Divinity

What a hodge-podge! What god-makers our 20th century philosophers are! When revealed religion is condemned to the rubbish heap and modem philosophes relie solely upon their intellect, senses, experiences, nature, etc., what unimaginable and ofttimes unintelligible ideas of God do they not create for themselves. We are inclined to exclaim with Pyrrho, who lived 365 before the time of Christ or twenty years after the birth of Aristotle, “There are no two schools of philosophy that agree upon the essential problems. Speculation brings us only trouble and uncertainty and involves us in endless contradiction. Abandon barren speculation and - instead …

Liturgies And Hymnology In The American Lutheran Church Until 1820, H W. Romoser May 1929

Liturgies And Hymnology In The American Lutheran Church Until 1820, H W. Romoser

Bachelor of Divinity

In the analysis and consideration of any liturgical form or group of liturgies the student must from the beginning set down for himself certain principles and accepted norms of judgment to guide him in such study and to form for him a definite, logical and true basis for comparison and evaluation of the material treated.

The Geography Of The Psalms, Alexander Heidel May 1929

The Geography Of The Psalms, Alexander Heidel

Bachelor of Divinity

This, however, is an entirely wrong conception. And it is the first object of this paper to show that the O. T. people by no means possessed such a limited knowledge of geography, but, on the contrary, were acquainted with a surprisingly large part of the known world. We shall not avail ourselves of all the different places and peoples mentioned in the various books of the O .T., but we shall rather confine ourselves to one book of the O.T. Scripture, and that is not even historical, much less geographical, but a devotional book, the hymnal and prayer book …

Agnosticism, Ruth Agnes Grant May 1929

Agnosticism, Ruth Agnes Grant

Bachelors’ Theses

Even in poetry is the existence of God proclaimed. Even in song are his praises sung. Millions of dollars are spent yearly erecting temples in his honor. Thousands of young men and women dedicate their lives to his service. Untold sacrifices are made in his name! In whose name? For whose service? Why, it is in the name, and for the service of that great infinite God who is the uncaused, first cause of all reality that began to be. Shall I tell these people that they are unreasonable, that there are acting in an illogical, irrational manner by serving …

Genesis, Development And Progress Of The United Church Of Canada, Dougald K. Mccoll May 1929

Genesis, Development And Progress Of The United Church Of Canada, Dougald K. Mccoll

Graduate Thesis Collection

There is an almost universal demand in Christendom for a union of churches, which will, in some way, give stability and visibility to the unity of all Christians. Throughout the world there are new movements toward unity. In England, Scotland, United States and Canada, in fact the majority of countries where the reform faith is in the strongest, there is a tendency to accentuate the things that unite.

The Apostolic Succession Of The Episcopal Church, W Poehler Apr 1929

The Apostolic Succession Of The Episcopal Church, W Poehler

Bachelor of Divinity

"By this term (Apostolic Succession) is understood the claim made by most episcopally ordained clergymen and bishops (Anglican, Syrian, and Catholic churches) that they constitute links in an uninterrupted chain of similarly ordained persons, the first of whom were ordained by the apostles themselves. With this opinion is combined the view that only clergymen who are in the line of this spiritual succession are entitled to a pastoral office in the Christian Church, and that all others usurp the functions of the ministry….. the authoritatively commissioned minister is the proper divine instrumentality through which Christ, the exalted invisible Head of …

The Teleological Argument For The Existence Of God, Louis A. Wilson Apr 1929

The Teleological Argument For The Existence Of God, Louis A. Wilson

Bachelors’ Theses

After all, the mystic's position is not wholly unintelligible. For while his imagination serves him as an immediate perceptive faculty with which he sees God in his every glance at the universe, his view is not without a philosophical basis. It is from the data furnished us by the universe of our experience that Natural Theology is able to arrive at the knowledge of the existence of God. In doing so it may employ either of three ·types of arguments. If it begins with a consideration of the primary attributes proper to all finite beings as such, it is metaphysical; …
