Defenders of Creation-Science treat the Bible as, among other things, an infallible oracle on matters of science. Two problems with this view are that it leads to mistaken scientific ideas but also that it ignores what mainstream theologians have said about the Bible, namely, that it is not a science book. Creation-Science is a product of theological ignorance.

In this paper I will argue that Competitivism should be rejected. No more will be said about competitivist theories of justice, but if Competitivism as a theory of the good is rejected, so must Competitivism as a theory of right be, since the motivation for arranging society so as to maximize the extent to which people excel, or the like, is precisely the assumption that having competitive properties is valuable. My aim will be to show that the possession of such properties contributes nothing of any great importance to our lives: excelling and its kin should be neither intrinsically valuable …

The Phenomenology of Spirit has been in rich and equal measures a source of both frustration and fascination to its readers. Coming to it from the more conventional texts of our tradition (even including Hegel's later writings) readers have been puzzled, first, by the structure of the Phenomenology. Despite his suggestions that he is following an actual historical development of some sort Hegel will pass from the Terror of 1793-94 to prehistoric religions of nature, or from Kantian universality in morality to the life of the Greek polis. The thesis is that a theory of private property rights can be reconstructed from the remarks about property scattered throughout Aristotle’s writings. His working concept is as follows: X has a property right in P if, and only if, X possesses P in such a way that the use of P is up to X and the alienation of P (giving P away or selling P) is up to X. The 'Finiguerra' Venus And Her Children: The Iconology Of A Fifteenth-Century Florentine Engraving, Gwendolyn Bryant

Quidditas

Interpreting Finiguerra's engraving of the planetary Venus and those born under her aegis not only entails an analysis of the engraving itself and other related images, but it calls for a reassessment of the work of Aby Warburg, whose research on this and other series of the planets cleared the way for many subsequent studies. Since Warburg's followers have consistently ignored many of his theoretical concerns, it is essential to outline them briefly if we are to understand his analysis of the 'Finiguerra' Venus.

Faith And The Many-Tiered Structure Of Belief, Donald W. Viney

Faculty Submissions

Elaborating on the work of Alvin Plantinga and the concept of noetic structures, I argue that the concept of a rational belief is flexible enough to tolerate a certain degree of uncertainty and inability to answer criticism of the belief. This flexibility, moreover, is an essential component in the concept of a rational faith in God.
