Classicism Versus Romanticism In The Modern, Matthew Clark Wolfe
Classicism Versus Romanticism In The Modern, Matthew Clark Wolfe
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Classicism and romanticism have reached a point of intense opposition. The result is a displacement of quality in the arts, particularly in music. This opposition leads to what Robert M. Pirsig defines as "thin art," art which lacks expression or underlying form. Coupled with this problem is the surge of technological developments over the past few decades. This surge is actually widening the gap between classicism and romanticism. Thus the problem of thin art will continue to grow if a balance and reuniting of the forces of classicism, romanticism and quality is not achieved.

The Serpent's Tooth, Christopher Frost Marshall
The Serpent's Tooth, Christopher Frost Marshall
Whittier Scholars Program
This project is a play that involves the principles about of music, play , and production. The play is based on King Arthur and the knights. The whole experience of my senior project, from the first rough draft of the plot, to the final focusing of the each light, was the most significant learning experience of my college career. Nothing in the classroom can replace actually doing something. Through writing and then mounting the production of The Serpent's Tooth I found I was finally applying the principles, theories and ideas that were a part of the classrooms education. And in …

A Profile Of Anna Bon, 18th Century Venetian Composer, Kathleen Abromeit
A Profile Of Anna Bon, 18th Century Venetian Composer, Kathleen Abromeit
Lawrence University Honors Projects
During the 1700's, music was flourishing in Italy, and Italy was regarded as the country of true musicians. Italian musicians and composers were frequently imported by courts in other countries. One Venetian composer of the time, who was composing for royalty, was Anna Bon. There is very little known about her life beyond that which appears on the title pages of her published works. A modest amount of information on Bon appears in Eitner's Quellenlexikon (1898). Abromeit examines this scarce amount of information and prepares an analysis and realization of two of Bon's sonatas for flute and continuo, Opus 1, …

"Four Dreams": A Chamber Symphony, Richard Pauley
"Four Dreams": A Chamber Symphony, Richard Pauley
Masters Theses
"Four Dreams" is a four-movement work for chamber orchestra. It was composed between January and May, 1985, in Charleston, Illinois. Elements from different style periods are used in the composition. Modal harmony, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, is prevalent. Imitative devices associated with Renaissance and Baroque music are also employed, as well as such Twentieth Century techniques as dodecaphony and polychord writing. It is the first symphonic work by the composer. It is suitable for performance on the college or professional level. Its duration is approximately 18 minutes.
