Unusual Beethoven Items From The Krasner Collection, Donald Seibert

The Courier

This article details the musical scores donated as gifts to the Syracuse University Libraries on behalf of violinist and Syracuse Professor Louis Krasner. Some of the scores include first editions of Beethoven scores, but the main collection includes rare chamber music and string adaptations of music popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth century. Beethoven himself often protested about these works, claiming pianos are too far away from stringed instruments to be directly adapted.

All of these elements may be found in "Windsongs". The second movement, entitled "Monteana", derives much of its harmonic content …

William's father, John Shakespeare, was the son of a respectable farmer at Snitterfield, just a few short miles from Stratford. John arrived in Stratford with a moderate inheritance and set up business as a local merchant and landowner. He is described as being a wool dealer and a glover in Stratford. He purchased two houses; one in Green-hill Street and another in Henley Street.

In 1557, John married Mary Arden, daughter of a wealthy land owner, who brought with her an estate called "Ashbies" and an interest in two Snitterfield tenements. …
