Jack Kleinsinger Presents Highlights in Jazz
Jack Kleinsinger presents Highlights in Jazz. The concert was held at NYU Loeb Student Center, Thursday, October 3rd, 1985 at 8:00pm in association with NYU program board. Jack served as producer and master of ceremonies for the series of concerts. Artists for the concert include Al Cohn, Clark Terry, James Moody, Carol Britto, Joe Cohn and Ronnie Bedford. Benny Carter was scheduled but he was unable to attend. Special guest: Major Holley.

Schutz And The Organ, Quentin Faulkner

The year 1985 marks the anniversaries of four celebrated Baroque musicians. Three of them--Scarlatti, Handel and Bach--belong to the late Baroque and were renowned during their time as keyboard virtuosi. The fourth, Heinrich Schutz (1585-1672), belongs to the early Baroque, and his relation to the keyboard is neither so clear nor so recognized. Although Schutz was never acclaimed as a keyboard virtuoso, he was indeed an accomplished organist and remained in close contact with that instrument throughout his long career.
While it is possible that Schutz had already begun keyboard training as a student in Weissenfels, the early formation of …

The Effects Of Various Kinds Of Background Music On The I.Q. Scores Of Ninth-Grade Students, L.C. Bud Johnston
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
One hundred 9th-grade students were divided into four groups of 25 each through systematic sampling procedures. Each of the groups were tested, pre and post, by the Otis-Lennon Mental Ability Test, forms J and K. During the pretest for all groups, the background condition of silence was observed. During the posttest, one group was again tested in silence. The other three groups were each tested to one of three background conditions: pop music, hard rock music, and soft rock music. Pop music played was characterized as more mellow, more melodic, and less intense than rock music. Hard rock …

The Evolution Of The Cadence In The Cyclic Masses Of Dufay, Ockeghem, Josquin, And Gombert, Janet E. Giffin
Graduate Thesis Collection
Four composers have been chosen for this study. They were the leaders of four successive generations of composers influential in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Their masses were written between the years 1420 A.D. and 1560 A.D. Many significant changes took place during this period of one hundred forty years. Older compositional techniques such as the use of formes fixes and isorhythm all but disappeared. Cantus firmus technique was transformed and extended to unify the mass cycle. Aesthetic considerations became more important to the composer than liturgical canons, and composers began to regard themselves as artistic creators not mere …
