Tuning Renaissance And Baroque Instruments: Some Guidelines, Mark Lindley

Performance Practice Review

Provides detailed guidelines for tuning keyboard instruments, including the harpsichord, piano, and organ. Musical examples for tuning unisons between overtones in consonant intervals and octaves are included. Other musical examples illustrate the procedures for setting a quasi-Pythagorean temperament, a meantone temperament, a temperament ordinaire, a Bach-style irregular temperament, and an equal temperament.

Concentrating on the genre of art song, the project explored the world and works of female composers. The project both compiles a complete history of female contributions to the art song and prepared a recital program using such works exclusively. Also included was a discussion of the difficulties faced by female composers as well as a discussion of societal changes which resulted in the gradually increasing levels of recognition women are receiving for their contributions.

In this study, the author examines the development of country music in the area surrounding Bowling Green and Glasgow, Kentucky, from approximately 1930 to 1960 and its relation to the newly emerging medium of radio. Emphasis is placed on several performers whose careers were linked to the radio stations which began to broadcast in Bowling Green and Glasgow during the 1940s.

This project is a sequential resource guide of introductory music experiences that utilize drama techniques all of which culminate with performances. This particular resource guide is designed to be used in conjunction with the general music curriculum where musical ideas and concepts are the main focus for learning. Drama is introduced into the resource guide to augment the existing music program. The use of drama is used to reinforce these musical concepts and thus enhance the musical experience.
